BTS leader RM has added another accolade to his impressive artistic journey, with the music video for LOST! taking home the Craft: Cinematography award at the 2024 Berlin Commercial Awards. This win highlights RM’s ability to create not only compelling music but also visually stunning works that resonate on multiple levels.

LOST!, the lead single from RM’s second studio album Right Place, Wrong Person, was released on May 24, 2024. The music video is a rich exploration of themes such as disillusionment, self-reflection, and the emotional challenges of personal growth. The song’s introspective lyrics capture a deep sense of being adrift, with RM expressing the pain of unmet expectations through the line:

“I thought that I was special and we would be together, but I’ve never been so wrong. Now I’m lost, lost, lost, lost.”

These sentiments, paired with the music’s whimsical yet upbeat tones, create a complex emotional landscape that is both thought-provoking and deeply relatable.

The music video, directed by Aube Perrie, is a visual representation of RM’s internal struggle. The narrative follows multiple versions of RM, each symbolizing different facets of his identity. These versions navigate a surreal and often disorienting landscape, representing the complexities of social integration and the search for self-acceptance. The visual style complements the whimsical tone of the music, adding layers of playful confusion as the characters strive to work together, only to find themselves continually at odds.

The Berlin Commercial Awards recognized the exceptional cinematography in LOST!, a collaboration between Director of Photography Sehoon Jang, Aube Perrie, and the creative team from JNKYRD. The video’s cinematography artfully combines sharp, dynamic shots with softer, more introspective moments, enhancing the dual themes of disorientation and fragmentation. The use of light, shadow, and color draws viewers into RM’s world, making the experience both visually captivating and emotionally engaging.

Creative Director San Yawn and a talented cast, including Kim Namjoon (RM), Audrey Kang, and David H. Lee, bring this visually compelling concept to life. Each cast member plays a crucial role in the narrative, contributing to the overarching theme of identity and loss, and further immersing the audience in RM’s introspective journey.

LOST! is more than just a music video; it is a profound piece of art that invites viewers to reflect on their own lives. With its award-winning cinematography and powerful storytelling, RM’s LOST! stands as a visual masterpiece that will continue to resonate with audiences.
