BTS member Suga once offered to pay for his friend and fellow musician EL CAPITXN’s hospital bills so he could recover his voice and continue singing. This touching moment from their long friendship was revealed in a preview of EL CAPITXN’s upcoming essay collection.
EL CAPITXN, also known as Jang Yi Jeong, was a singer in the K-pop group HISTORY before becoming a producer. He struggled with a mysterious vocal condition that made it hard for him to sing or even speak normally. Despite visiting multiple hospitals, no doctor could find the cause.
During a difficult time in 2016, Suga (real name Min Yoongi) stepped in to help. While driving together, Suga told EL CAPITXN, “If you want to be a singer, fix your voice first. I’ll pay for the hospital fees… No matter how much it costs, I’ll support you.” EL CAPITXN later shared how much this meant to him.
“No one could bring up the problems I had first like you did. Not even my family could talk to me easily about the fact that I wasn’t able to sing anymore, but you brought it up while driving.”
Though EL CAPITXN never fully recovered his singing voice, Suga helped him transition into songwriting. They have since worked together on hits like Daechwita, Ddaeng, and Snooze. Their bond remains strong, with EL CAPITXN even joking that Suga is like a second father to him.
“You’re the one who raised Jang Yi-jeong, but Yoongi is the one who raised EL CAPITXN.”
The story resurfaced recently as fans praised Suga’s kindness. Many noted how he supported EL CAPITXN when he was still an up-and-coming artist without much money. Years later, EL CAPITXN returned the favor by publicly standing by Suga during his own struggles.
In 2024, when Suga faced backlash for a DUI incident, EL CAPITXN updated an Instagram post with the words “Everything will be okay”—a lyric from their song Snooze. Fans saw this as a quiet show of support during a tough time.
“Yoongi was the one who offered EL CAPITXN to pay all his hospital bills just because he wanted him to never drop his dream. Now EL CAPITXN is publicly showing Yoongi his support during hard times. Their friendship is so precious.”
Suga is currently serving in the military and is set to be discharged on June 21, 2025. Meanwhile, EL CAPITXN’s essay collection, We’re Still in the Interlude, will share more about their friendship and his journey in music.
