Camila Cabello reveals why she got back together with Shawn Mendes in 2023 and why it didn’t work out

Loading

Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes are two of the most popular singers in the world, and their relationship has been a source of fascination for fans and media alike. The duo met in 2014, collaborated on the hit song “Señorita” in 2019, and dated for two years before breaking up in November 2021. However, in April 2023, they surprised everyone by reuniting at Coachella and sharing a passionate kiss. What led them to give their romance another chance, and why did they end it again?

In a recent interview with the Call Her Daddy podcast, Cabello opened up about her thoughts on reconciling with exes, and how she and Mendes decided to try again last year. She said that she is a fan of reaching out to former flames, and that she is “kind of impulsive” in that way. She also admitted that she would rather say what she feels and see what happens, than keep it in her mind and fantasize about it.

“I opted for that route,” the “Havana” singer said, referring to how she and Shawn Mendes got back together for a period in 2023. “It is what it is. It was a great route, it was a fun time. It was a fun moment.”

Why it didn’t last

However, Cabello also revealed why she and Shawn Mendes decided to call it quits the second time around. She said that they realized that their relationship was not a fit, and that it didn’t feel right. She added that they were both in a place in their life where they could recognize that sooner, and that they didn’t need to try so hard to make it work.

“I think, luckily, I was in a place in my life where it took me less time to realize that. It took us both less time to be like, ‘This doesn’t feel right and we don’t need to try so hard to make it work. It’s all good,’” she said.

Cabello also said that she will always care about Shawn Mendes and love him, and that he is a good person and a kind ex. She said that they started their relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends.

“I will always care about him and love him. He’s such a good person and I’m lucky because some people have exes that are awful, and he is not. He’s a really kind, good person,” she said.
