After a decade of playing the character, Charlie Cox is finally suiting up in his favorite costume as Matt Murdock in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The new look, which has been revealed through official images and promotional materials, introduces a classic comic book element that fans have been requesting for years. The season is scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in March 2026.
The New Suit Design and Comic Inspiration
The new costume marks a significant departure from the red and black outfits seen in the original Netflix series and the first season of Born Again. This time, Daredevil is adopting a much darker aesthetic.
The suit is primarily black, a design inspired by the “Shadowland” story arc from Marvel Comics. While the base appears to be his familiar red suit that has been spray-painted black, glimpses of the original red color are still visible on the chest, abs, and one hand. The most striking features are the dark red, almost black, eye lenses and the highly prominent “DD” chest emblem. This iconic double-D logo, a staple of the character’s appearance in the comics, had been absent from all of Charlie Cox’s previous live-action suits, with the exception of a small version on the yellow suit from She-Hulk.
Charlie Cox’s Excitement for the Costume
Charlie Cox has not hidden his enthusiasm for the new suit. During an appearance at New York Comic Con, he shared his thoughts directly with fans, expressing a particular pride in the long-awaited logo.
“It’s pretty cool. I doubted whether that would ever happen,” Cox said. “They made me earn it; I just waited for it to be something that would be hopefully inevitable. It took over 10 years, it was pretty coolโฆ when I found out I had the double Ds, I was like, I hope I get paparazzi. I hope it’s like on the internet because I was so proud of it.”
In another conversation at GalaxyCon, Cox explained that this suit has become his favorite for two main reasons: its “badass” appearance and a unique characteristic that sets it apart from all his previous costumes. He teased that while past suits were all represented in the comics, this new outfit does something unique to the show that doesn’t exist in the source material.
Fan Reaction to the Leaked Look
Even before the official promotional campaign began, images of the new suit leaked online, sparking immediate and positive reactions from the Marvel fan community. The leaked photo, which appeared to be from a professional shoot, was widely shared on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit.
Fans quickly praised the design, with many calling it the “best Daredevil has ever looked” and the “best live-action Daredevil suit yet.” The inclusion of the classic “DD” logo was a frequent point of celebration, with comments like “finally, the damn logo” capturing the general sentiment. The sleek, shadowy design was described as “badass” and “minimalistic,” with many noting that it perfectly captures the character’s gritty tone.
The Significance of the DD Logo
The addition of the chest emblem is more than just a cosmetic update. For Marvel purists, the “DD” is an essential part of Daredevil’s iconic costume, and its absence over the years has been noticeable. Only one previous live-action adaptation, the 2003 Daredevil film starring Ben Affleck, featured the logo, and even then it was a much smaller design.
Costume designer Emily Gunshor had previously addressed the missing logo, explaining that for the first season of Born Again, the decision to omit it was a specific story point. She noted that while she can offer her opinion, such decisions often go to a “higher level” at Marvel. The logo’s introduction in Season 2 suggests a shift in Matt Murdock’s vigilante identity, potentially acting as a public symbol of defiance against Wilson Fisk’s regime.
Story Context for Season 2
The new suit will debut in a New York City that has been transformed into a police state under the rule of Mayor Wilson Fisk. After the events of Season 1, Fisk has declared martial law and empowered his Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF), pushing Daredevil to escalate his resistance.
The season will also serve as a mini-reunion for the Netflix Defenders era, with Krysten Ritter officially returning as Jessica Jones. Ritter has expressed her excitement about revisiting the character, noting that going “deeper with her” is “everything that you dream of.” The storyline is described as having a broad scope, with Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum comparing the political intrigue to a “fantasy epic” or Game of Thrones, as Daredevil builds a resistance movement on the ground while Kingpin deals with high-level power players like Matthew Lillard’s character, Mr. Charles.
