The second season of Daredevil: Born Again just started streaming on March 24, 2026, but the show’s lead actor has already let slip how the entire season ends. Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, gave away a major spoiler about Mayor Wilson Fisk’s fate in a recent interview, and fans are now buzzing about what this means for the rest of the season.

Cox spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the show’s upcoming third season, but in doing so, he accidentally confirmed a huge turning point for the current season. The actor revealed that the “Mayor Fisk era” will be finished by the time Season 2 wraps up, setting the stage for something completely different in Season 3.

Cox Confirms Mayor Fisk’s Downfall in Season 2

With the second season now streaming, viewers are watching Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) crush New York City under his political power. The Mayor has turned the city into his personal kingdom, hunting down vigilantes while Matt Murdock and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) operate from the shadows. But according to Cox, this dark chapter for the city will not last.

While discussing the scripts for the already-approved third season, Cox shared details about how the story shifts after Season 2 ends.

“I haven’t read the whole thing but, no, it feels like we’ve shed the skin of the Mayor Fisk era. It feels like it’s a new book, a new dawn a little bit. It’s still a continuation, obviously, but it’s slightly different.”

The actor’s comments make it clear that by the finale of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Fisk’s time as mayor will come to an end. The character has been a central figure in the series since its launch, and this marks a major turning point for both the show and the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe street-level stories.

Showrunner Confirms Consequences for Fisk and Murdock

Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for the series, has backed up what Cox hinted at. During a press event, Scardapane explained how Season 2 concludes and what it means for both the hero and the villain moving forward.

“In season 2, it ends in a manner that there are consequences for each of those characters. [In] season 2, Fisk is fully Kingpin and Murdoch is fully Daredevil, and there’s a consequence to that, and that’s where we’re heading next.”

Scardapane also made it clear that the conflict between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk is far from finished, even though this particular storyline will wrap up. He called their rivalry an ongoing “ballad” with different chapters, confirming that Season 3 will explore a new direction while keeping these two characters connected.

What This Means for the Current Season

The timing of this revelation comes just as Season 2 premieres with its first two episodes. The season consists of eight episodes releasing weekly, with the finale scheduled for May 5, 2026. The early episodes show Fisk at the height of his power, with Matthew Lillard joining the cast as a mysterious ally named Mr. Charles who helps Fisk expand his influence beyond city limits.

Viewers have already seen Matt Murdock strike back by sinking a ship full of illegal weapons in New York’s harbor, but Fisk quickly covered up the damage. The power imbalance between the two characters remains steep, making Cox’s spoiler all the more surprising for audiences who expected the Mayor Fisk storyline to last longer.

Fans had already started guessing about Fisk’s fate after the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day dropped. That upcoming film, set in the same MCU timeline after Season 2 of Daredevil, shows Fisk’s assistant Sheila Rivera handing Spider-Man a key to the city. This visual clue suggested someone else had taken over as mayor, confirming that Fisk would not remain in office by the time that movie takes place.

Krysten Ritter Returns and More Cast Details

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 brings back the core cast while adding some exciting new faces. Returning alongside Cox and D’Onofrio are Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, and Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk.

The biggest addition this season is Krysten Ritter, who returns as Jessica Jones. Her character was a fan favorite from the original Netflix Marvel series, and her appearance in Season 2 expands the street-level hero team-up that fans have wanted to see for years. Newcomers to the cast include Matthew Lillard as Mr. Charles, Lili Taylor as the Governor of New York, and Camila Rodriguez in an undisclosed role.
