The new Netflix series City of Shadows brings a dark mystery to Barcelona’s famous streets. The story starts when a burned body is found on the outside of Casa Milà, a famous building designed by Antoni Gaudí. A troubled police inspector, Milo Malart, is called back to work to solve the crime. He is forced to partner with a by-the-book deputy inspector, Rebeca Garrido. The show is a six-part thriller that landed on Netflix on December 12, 2025. For many viewers, the powerful cast is a major reason to watch. This guide breaks down the main actors and the characters they bring to life in this tense Spanish drama.
The Lead Detectives: Isak Férriz and Verónica Echegui
The investigation at the heart of City of Shadows is driven by two very different officers, brought together by a terrible crime.
Isak Férriz plays Inspector Milo Malart. Milo is a detective with the Mossos d’Esquadra, the police force of Catalonia. When the series begins, he is suspended from duty. His return to work is not welcomed by everyone, but his skills are needed for a complex case. Férriz portrays Milo as sharp and determined, but also as someone who often ignores the rules. This role adds to Férriz’s growing list of Netflix performances, which includes parts in Infiesto and Burning Body.
Verónica Echegui plays Deputy Inspector Rebeca Garrido. Rebeca is the disciplined partner assigned to work with Milo. Her calm and methodical approach is meant to balance his more reckless style.
The role of Rebeca Garrido is a significant one for the series and for audiences. Verónica Echegui, the actress who plays her, passed away in August 2025 after an illness. This series features one of her final performances. Echegui was a celebrated actress in Spain, known for films like Yo soy la Juani and other Netflix series such as Intimacy. Her performance in City of Shadows serves as a tribute to her talent.
The Supporting Cast: Key Figures in the Mystery
Beyond the two lead detectives, the story is filled with characters who have secrets and connections to the case. The actors in these roles are some of Spain’s most respected performers.
Ana Wagener plays Susana Cabrera. She is the officer who brings Milo Malart back to work and gives him the difficult case. Wagener is a powerful actress known for her intense roles. She won a Goya Award, Spain’s top film honor, for her performance in La voz dormida and has also appeared in Netflix’s El inocente.
Manolo Solo plays Mauricio Navarro. Described as a key and morally questionable figure in the plot, his character becomes deeply involved in the unfolding events. Solo is also a Goya Award winner, recognized for his supporting role in Tarde para la ira. In this series, his character’s actions drive much of the tension in later episodes.
Jordi Reverté plays Eduard Pintó. He is the CEO of a major construction company in Catalonia. The burned body discovered at the start of the series is his character. Reverté is known for roles in Los renglones torcidos de Dios and El practicante.
Other important members of the cast include Jordi Ballester as Jordi Singla and Jordi Rico in a pivotal role. The series also features performances from Àgata Roca, David Bagés, and David Climent.
