Cosmetic Brand Medipeel Criticized for Unauthorized Use of aespa Winter’s Portraits

Medipeel, a cosmetic brand, has come under scrutiny for using Winter from the K-pop group aespa‘s portrait rights without permission. The brand utilized an image of Winter for a marketing video promoting their products, captioning it with “Trendy dewy skin is all the rage thanks to aespa’s Winter.”

Current Brand Associations

Winter, who is officially a model for Amore Pacific‘s brands Mamonde and Espoir, has not endorsed or worked with Medipeel. The unauthorized use extended to repurposing aespa‘s YouTube content, where Winter was seen using a wrapping mask during a photoshoot, with Medipeel claiming association with the products shown.

Medipeel‘s Response to the Controversy

In response to the backlash, Medipeel issued a statement, explaining, “We were not aware of this as the marketing campaign was done through a third-party agency.” They confirmed they are taking steps to remove the content, although the videos remain online at the time of this report.

Amore Pacific‘s Reaction

Amore Pacific, Winter‘s employer in the beauty sector since last year, has acknowledged the issue, stating, “We are in the process of checking the facts.” The company’s approach to this infringement of portrait rights is now under close observation.

Fans and industry observers are closely watching how Amore Pacific will respond to the unauthorized use of Winter’s portrait rights.
