The new Netflix crime comedy Big Mistakes just dropped on April 9, 2026, and fans are speaking up about the show. Many who loved Dan Levy in Schitt’s Creek are finding his new series a bit too much to handle. The show marks Levy’s return to television after six years, but some viewers are asking for less shouting and more of the charm they loved from his previous work.

The series follows Nicky (Dan Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega) , two siblings from New Jersey who get pulled into organized crime. Morgan steals a necklace from a local shop, and things go very wrong from there. What starts as a kind act for their dying grandmother turns into grave robbing, drug dealing, and working for a crime boss.

Fans Say The Show Goes Over The Top With Loud Arguments

Social media is full of mixed opinions about Big Mistakes. Some viewers find the nonstop yelling and chaotic energy hard to watch. A Reddit user named No-King-6332 shared their honest thoughts about the show.

“It has potential but I’m hoping they tone it down a bit. Levy’s cracking me up. Metcalf, who I love, is a bit much.”

Another viewer, Logical Emphasis_223, said they kept watching because they support Levy but found the early episodes tough to get through.

“It’s…okay. I mean I’m still watching it. I love Dan Levy so much and just want him to succeed. The first few episodes had me cringing some. Mostly because the yelling was over the top and I kind of hated everyone (except Dan Levy). But it does seem to calm down and get a little better. Hoping it ends strong.”

Not everyone agrees. Some fans enjoy the wild ride and the unusual direction of the series. The show’s 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes shows that critics generally like it, but regular viewers have more divided opinions.

Critics Praise The Cast But Question The Storytelling

Professional reviewers have shared mixed feelings about Big Mistakes too. Screenrant’s Dani Kessel Odom called the Netflix show’s storytelling “frustratingly chaotic and inconsistent.” She wrote that the series “throws us to the wolves and expects us to figure things out as we go, but they never give us enough answers for it to be satisfying.”

But other critics found plenty to enjoy. Mashable’s Belen Edwards praised the connection between Levy and Ortega, calling them “a stellar comedy duo” who work perfectly together. The Hashtag Show’s Amelia Harvey described the series as “a breath of fresh air” in the comedy genre.

Dan Levy Opens Up About Family Inspiration For The Show

Dan Levy spoke with PEOPLE magazine about what inspired Big Mistakes. He said his real-life relationship with his sister Sarah Levy helped shape the show’s sibling dynamic.

“I would probably say the early days of me and my sister,” Levy explained. “We’re in a far better place now that we’re older and wiser. But drawing on … anyone who has a sibling, I think, will recognize themselves in the show.”

He also talked about wanting the same feeling he had while making Schitt’s Creek. “When I left Schitt’s, I really wanted to make sure that the next thing I did in TV gave me that same sense of inspiration and passion and excitement and love and affection for the people I was working with, and it did.”

What The Series Is Really About

Big Mistakes follows Nicky (Levy) , a pastor, and Morgan (Taylor Ortega) , a teacher. Their mother Linda, played by Laurie Metcalf , wants them to give something special to their dying grandmother. Morgan decides to steal a necklace from a shop run by a Turkish gangster. She gets caught, and the siblings end up being blackmailed into working for criminals.

The eight-episode season shows the pair failing upward. Every bad decision somehow makes them more valuable to the crime world. By the end, they are completely trapped with no way out. The finale reveals that Elizabeth Perkins’ character Annette is actually the crime boss running everything.

Where To Watch Big Mistakes

All eight episodes of Big Mistakes are now streaming on Netflix. The show is available for subscribers worldwide. Each episode runs about 30 minutes, making it easy to watch in one sitting.

The series also features Abby Quinn as Natalie, the well-behaved sister, and Jack Innanen as Max, Morgan’s boyfriend. Boran Kuzum plays Yusuf, the gangster who first blackmails the siblings.
