"Danielle of NewJeans Opens Up About Needing Permission to Eat and Use the Washroom During Tough Trainee Days, Describes Experience as Heartbreaking"

Danielle, a member of the group NJZ (formerly known as NewJeans), recently spoke candidly about the intense scrutiny she faced during her trainee days. In an Instagram live session on March 16, Danielle revealed the demanding and restrictive environment she experienced while training under YG Entertainment and later HYBE’s Source Music. Her revelations shed light on the often-hidden challenges faced by young individuals aspiring to become K-pop idols.

Constant Monitoring and Control

Danielle disclosed that her daily life as a trainee was heavily monitored. She was required to keep a detailed log of her activities, which included noting every instance she needed to use the restroom, even during her limited personal time. Furthermore, Danielle had to send photographs of all her meals to her manager for approval before she was allowed to eat them. She described her training environment as “a confined environment” due to this constant supervision.

Emotional Impact and Call for Change

Danielle also shared the negative impact this rigorous training system had on her mental well-being. She explained that it caused her to become emotionally detached over time. Reflecting on her experiences, Danielle stated emotionally, “Looking back now, I would never go through that again.” She firmly believes that no one should have to endure such stressful situations. “I just donโ€™t think trainees or artists should be experiencing even a remotely similar situation to what I went through at that stage, because itโ€™s so heartbreaking,” the NJZ artist expressed.

Speaking Up for Fellow Trainees

Danielle expressed her desire to be a voice for K-pop trainees and young artists who may lack the support or platform to share their own difficult experiences publicly. While acknowledging that not every artist goes through the same kind of ordeal, she believes there are others who, like her, “are constantly being held in a position where they are non-stop being compared and non-stop being ranked.” Addressing these individuals, she emphasized strongly, “People should be treated as people, and every individual deserves respect and dignity.โ€
