Fans of the gritty street-level heroes of the Marvel Universe have their first official look at a major team-up. A new image reveals Krysten Ritter back in action as Jessica Jones, standing alongside Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. This marks the character’s first official return to the screen since her own Netflix series ended in 2019 and her proper entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. The duo is shown in broad daylight, deep in conversation on what appears to be a city rooftop, plotting their next move against a common enemy.

The photo confirms Jessica Jones will join Matt Murdock’s growing resistance against the tyrannical rule of Wilson Fisk, who has solidified his power as the Mayor of New York City. This reunion, years in the making, promises to bring the sharp, contentious, yet respectful dynamic that fans loved when the characters first shared the screen in Netflix’s The Defenders. The second season is scheduled to premiere on March 4, 2026, exclusively on Disney+.

Official Image Confirms the Heroes’ Alliance

The released image offers a direct visual confirmation of Jessica Jones’s role in the upcoming conflict. She appears in her signature casual attire, looking ready for action, while Matt Murdock stands beside her in his Daredevil suit. The setting is a stark contrast to the dark alleyways and night scenes often associated with these heroes, suggesting a new phase of open rebellion against Fisk’s regime.

This visual reveal has been highly anticipated. While set photos and rumors during the season’s filming had strongly suggested Ritter’s return, this official release from Marvel Studios solidifies Jessica Jones’s place in the Daredevil: Born Again narrative. The image clearly shows the two heroes as partners in the coming fight.

The Dynamic Between Daredevil and Jessica Jones

According to Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, the on-screen chemistry between the two characters comes naturally from their contrasting personalities. He explained the dynamic fans can expect.

“Just by the nature of who Jessica is and who Matt is, they both give as much as they get,” Cox told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m not sure we were aware of it when we were shooting it. So we’ve been really waiting for this opportunity for so long now to put these two on screen together and have more fun with them.”

Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, compared Jessica’s involvement in Season 2 to how Jon Bernthal’s Punisher was used in the show’s first season. He indicated the creative team aimed to honor the characters’ established rapport while serving the new story.

Winderbaum said, “We both talked about it being important to play some of the hits, as it were, make sure that we have that same dynamic. Tongue in cheek, take the piss out of each other, but also get down to business and make sure that we’re serving the story appropriately.”

This suggests Jessica Jones will have a significant, though potentially not season-long, presence in the fight against Kingpin.

The State of Hell’s Kitchen and the Growing Resistance

Season 2 picks up directly after the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. Wilson Fisk, now the Mayor of New York, has declared martial law and outlawed vigilantism city-wide through his “Safer Streets Initiative”. He has imprisoned many who oppose him, creating a police state where moving around as a hero is a high-risk endeavor.

In response, Matt Murdock has begun gathering a team of allies to form a resistance cell. Jessica Jones is confirmed to be one of his key recruits. She is not the only familiar face returning to the fight. Deborah Ann Woll is back as Karen Page, who will play a crucial behind-the-scenes role in the resistance. New images show her with red hair, likely as a disguise to avoid detection by Fisk’s forces.

Other returning allies from the first season include investigator Cherry, played by Clark Johnson. They will face a powerful foe in Wilson Bethel’s Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, also known as Bullseye. Bethel has teased that the new season will show sides of the psychopathic assassin that audiences have not seen before.

New and Returning Cast Members for Season 2

The core cast from the first season returns, led by Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. D’Onofrio recently expressed his confidence in the new season, sharing a dark new image of Kingpin on social media with the comment, “Just watched some episodes of the second season of DD Born Again. Looking real good!”

The season also introduces new characters who will expand the political drama surrounding Mayor Fisk. Matthew Lillard joins the cast as Mr. Charles, described as an influential “power player” who becomes a political and diplomatic antagonist to Fisk. Lili Taylor will play Governor Marge McCaffrey, another political opponent of the mayor.

Notably, Elden Henson will reprise his role as Foggy Nelson in some capacity, despite the character’s death in the first season. The nature of his return is currently undisclosed. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, however, will not appear in Season 2, as the character is slated for his own Disney+ special.

The Road to Daredevil: Born Again Season 2

The path to this second season has been unique. The series was originally announced as an 18-episode season. After a major creative overhaul in late 2023, the show was retooled, and those episodes were split into two separate seasons. Season 1 consisted of nine episodes that premiered in 2025, and the upcoming Season 2 will consist of eight episodes.

Filming for Season 2 took place from February to July 2025 in New York City. The season is led by showrunner Dario Scardapane, with directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead returning to helm the first two episodes. Benson and Moorhead have described Season 2 as a “resistance tale” against the absolute power of Mayor Fisk.

Winderbaum has framed Matt Murdock’s journey in this season as that of a revolutionary. “Daredevil is a revolutionary in this season,” he said. “He’s a rebel and it’s fun to see him go up against the power of the city.” The season is set within Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a sign of confidence in the series, Marvel Studios renewed Daredevil: Born Again for a third season in September 2025, with filming expected to begin in 2026.
