The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is not fighting alone anymore. Marvel Studios just released a fresh teaser for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and it confirms the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. This news comes right after the intense events of Episode 3, giving fans a look at what is coming next for Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock. The new footage shows Jessica Jones back on the streets of New York, and she is ready to team up with Daredevil.
Jessica Jones Returns to Help Matt Murdock
The new teaser, which Marvel shared on social media, gives a clear look at Krysten Ritter suiting up again as the private investigator with super strength. This marks her official return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after her solo Netflix series ended in 2019. The timing is important because the show just finished a very dramatic Episode 3 of Season 1, which ended with a major character death.
In the teaser, Jessica Jones finds Matt Murdock in a tough spot. She jokes with him, showing the same sarcastic attitude that fans loved in her own show. The footage suggests that Wilson Fisk (played by Vincent D’Onofrio), who is now the Mayor of New York City, has made things very hard for anyone who tries to stop him. Jessica arrives in Hell’s Kitchen to help Matt take down the Kingpin’s control over the city.
Showrunner Dario Scardapane explained why they wanted to bring Jessica back.
“Jessica Jones, in particular, has interesting life events that we wanted to explore, and the banter between Charlie and Krysten is so damn good. We needed to get that flavor in.”
What Happened in Episode 3 That Set This Up
Season 1 Episode 3, titled “The Hollow of His Hand,” was a heavy courtroom drama. Matt Murdock defended Hector Ayala, also known as the White Tiger, who was played by Kamar de los Reyes. Matt fought hard to prove that Hector was innocent of killing a cop. Even though Matt got Hector acquitted, the story took a dark turn at the end.
Right after leaving the courthouse, Hector was shot and killed by someone wearing a Punisher logo. This murder happened on the street in broad daylight. The killer was likely one of the corrupt cops who hated vigilantes. This event made Matt Murdock very angry and showed that Wilson Fisk‘s anti-vigilante rules are pushing people to commit extreme violence.
This loss likely pushes Matt to accept that he cannot work alone anymore. It explains why he needs allies like Jessica Jones in the upcoming second season.
Other Familiar Faces Returning to Hell’s Kitchen
The new teaser for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 does not just feature Jessica Jones. Deborah Ann Woll is back as Karen Page, and Elden Henson returns as Foggy Nelson. Fans will remember that Foggy’s death was shown at the very start of Season 1. His appearance in the Season 2 teaser suggests that some scenes might be flashbacks, or Marvel might be changing how that event is viewed.
Wilson Bethel is also coming back as Bullseye. The teaser shows him in a few quick shots, looking very cheerful while drinking a milkshake, which creates a creepy feeling for what is to come. Royce Johnson will reprise his role as Detective Brett Mahoney, an honest cop trying to do his job while Fisk controls the city.
