The Date A Live anime series is finally ending. After five seasons, a movie, and spin-off projects, Kadokawa officially announced on April 10, 2026 that the new anime project is titled Date A Live F Last Date. This will be the final chapter adapting the remaining light novel volumes. The announcement included a teaser visual, a promotional video, and confirmation that the original voice actors are returning. A new animation studio, Fugaku, takes over production with Junji Nishimura as director.
The teaser visual shows Tohka Yatogami wearing a wedding dress with a peaceful smile. This image has gotten fans talking about how the story will end. The tagline reads: “Now—let our final war begin.”
Original Voice Cast Returns for the Final Season
All the main voice actors are back for Date A Live F Last Date. Nobunaga Shimazaki returns as Shido Itsuka, and Marina Inoue returns as Tohka Yatogami. The full cast includes Misuzu Togashi, Ayana Taketatsu, Iori Nomizu, Asami Sanada, Maaya Uchida, Sarah Emi Bridcutt, Minori Chihara, Ayumi Mano, Hitomi Nabatame, Akari Kageyama, and Aya Endo.
Shimazaki shared his feelings about returning to the role.
“It has been over ten years since I first voiced Shido. I am really happy to keep walking this long road together. Shido and I have grown a lot compared to when we started. I want to fight through to the end without forgetting my初心.” – Nobunaga Shimazaki
Marina Inoue also expressed confidence in the final project.

New Director and Studio Take Over the Franchise
Junji Nishimura directs Date A Live F Last Date at Fugaku studio. This marks a major change for the series. Previous seasons were made by different studios including AIC Plus+, Production IMS, J.C.Staff, and Geek Toys. Nishimura has worked on shows like Vladlove and Extreme Hearts. Fugaku previously worked on episodes of Whirlpool.
The change in studio and director has some fans worried. Nishimura has a history of changing original stories in his past projects. Some viewers of his earlier work complained about poor direction and too many changes from the source material. The final season’s quality will depend on whether the team follows the light novels closely or adds new content.
What Story Will Date A Live F Last Date Cover
Date A Live F Last Date adapts volumes 20 to 22 of the original light novel series. These are the final volumes that were never turned into anime before. Season 5, Date A Live V, aired in April 2024 and covered up to volume 19. The ending of Season 5 felt incomplete because of length limits. Fans were disappointed that the final chapters were not included.
The story picks up after Shido and the Spirits defeat Isaac Westcott, the founder of DEM Industries. The original Spirit, Mio Takamiya, is also gone. Life seems peaceful for Shido and the Spirits. But the Angel of Knowledge, Rasiel, warns Shido that a big problem is coming. The truth about their world is about to be revealed.
Koshi Tachibana, the original author, spoke about the series reaching 15 years.
“The other day, ‘Date A Live’ celebrated its 15th anniversary. Fifteen years—that means a baby born when the first volume was released is now in their third year of junior high school. A kid who was in their third year of junior high back then is now 30. The author, who was 24 back then, is now… okay, I will stop there. It is truly rare and a great honor to see a series continue for so long and still offer new content.” – Koshi Tachibana
New Character Designs From Original Artist Tsunako
Tsunako, the original light novel illustrator, designed brand new outfits for all 12 Spirits in Date A Live F Last Date. Each Spirit gets a unique costume that fits her personality. Tsunako said designing them was hard but she looks forward to seeing them in the anime.
The teaser visual already shows Tohka in a wedding dress. This has led many fans to guess that the final season will focus on Tohka and Shido’s relationship more than ever before. The title “Last Date” also points to a big romantic ending.

Release Information and Streaming Details
No official release date has been set for Date A Live F Last Date as of April 13, 2026. Kadokawa has not confirmed whether this will be a TV series or a theatrical movie. The project remains in production.
All previous five seasons of Date A Live are available on Crunchyroll for streaming. The service also carries the Mayuri Judgement movie and the Date A Bullet spin-off OVA. Fans can expect the final season to stream on Crunchyroll as well when it releases, though no international plans have been announced yet.
The light novel series has sold over 6 million copies worldwide. Yen Press publishes the English version of the books. The final volume, volume 22, came out in Japan on March 19, 2020.
