The official global launch date for the highly anticipated second season of the Australian comedy-crime series Deadloch has been announced. Prime Video confirmed the show will return for a six-part season in March 2026, moving the detectives from the cold of Tasmania to the steamy heat of Australia’s Northern Territory.
Release Date and Streaming Information
Deadloch Season 2 will premiere globally on March 20, 2026. All six episodes of the new season will be available on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories. This new season comes after the first became a major international hit, reaching the Top 10 TV shows in over 165 countries.
The new season has been described as entering a “Tropical Gothic” era, a major shift from the first season’s “Tassie Noir” setting.
The New Setting and Case
Season two transports detectives Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) to Australia’s Top End. They are there to investigate the death of Eddie’s former police partner, Bushy. Their plans change when the body of a local icon is discovered in a remote town, pulling them into a new case.
The setting of Barra Creek is a stark contrast to the first season’s icy Tasmanian landscape. The story will now feature verdant tropical canopies, red dirt roads, and waterways home to ancient predators. The extreme heat and humidity of the Northern Territory are set to play a big role in the season’s look and feel.
Returning and New Cast Members
The core cast from the first season is returning. This includes Kate Box as the serious Dulcie Collins and Madeleine Sami as the unorthodox Eddie Redcliffe. They will be joined again by Nina Oyama as Abby Matsuda and Alicia Gardiner as Cath York.
The new tropical location brings a host of new characters and actors. Luke Hemsworth joins the cast as Jason Wade, a croc-wrangling local icon and the host of Jason Wade’s Adventure Down Under. The creators, Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, said about the casting:
โLuke Hemsworth is joining our cast as croc-wrangling Territory icon, Jason Wade. Weโre feeling very happy with ourselves about this because heโs perfect. Itโs perfect casting.โ
Other new cast members include Steve Bisley, Shari Sebbens, and a long list of acclaimed Australian actors, ensuring a fresh dynamic for the new season.
Behind the Scenes and Production
Production for the new season started in 2024, with filming taking place in the Northern Territory, including Darwin and surrounding areas, before moving to Brisbane, Queensland. The series is created and written by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan, who also executive produce. The season is directed by Beck Cole and Gracie Otto.
The first season of Deadloch was a critical success, winning five AACTA Awards, including Best Acting in a Comedy for Kate Box and Best Screenplay in Television for its creators. It was also nominated for an International Emmy Award.
