Marvel fans, get ready for the most epic team-up ever. Deadpool 3 has just dropped its first trailer, and it reveals the title and the surprise appearance of Wolverine. Yes, you read that right. Hugh Jackman is back as the clawed mutant, joining Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth in his first MCU movie.
Deadpool meets Loki and the TVA
The trailer starts with a hilarious scene of Deadpool celebrating his birthday with his friends, including Vanessa, Dopinder, and Weasel. He is about to blow out the candles on his cake, which has a picture of Wolverine on it, when he is suddenly interrupted by the Time Variance Authority (TVA).
The TVA is the organization that monitors the multiverse and the timelines, as seen in the Loki series. They have come to recruit Deadpool for a special mission, and they introduce him to a TVA agent, played by Matthew Macfayden.
The agent shows Deadpool a series of screens that display footage from across the MCU, including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Spider-Man. He tells Deadpool that he has a chance to be a “hero among heroes” and join the fight against a new threat.
Deadpool is not impressed, though. He mocks the agent and the MCU, saying that he is the “Messiah” and the “Marvel Jesus”.
Deadpool and Wolverine team up
The trailer then cuts to a montage of action scenes, showing that Deadpool 3 is still a very violent and bloody movie, despite being part of the Disney-owned MCU. We see Deadpool stabbing and shooting multiple enemies, as well as using his trademark fourth-wall-breaking humor.
But the most exciting part of the trailer is the reveal of Wolverine. We don’t see his face, but we see his back and his iconic claws. He is wearing a yellow suit, which is a nod to his comic book costume. He is also seen standing next to Deadpool in a dark alley, as they prepare to face off against some foes.
The trailer ends with the title of the movie: Deadpool & Wolverine. This confirms the rumors that Hugh Jackman would reprise his role as Wolverine, after retiring from the character in 2017’s Logan. It also suggests that the movie will explore the relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine, who have a long and complicated history in the comics.
Deadpool 3 release date and cast
Deadpool 3 is set to hit theaters on July 25 in the UK and July 26 in the US. The movie was delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Hollywood strikes, but it finally wrapped up production in January 2024.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are not the only stars returning for the movie. We also have Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Deadpool’s girlfriend; Karan Soni as Dopinder, Deadpool’s taxi driver; T.J. Miller as Weasel, Deadpool’s best friend; and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Deadpool’s X-Men ally.
There are also some new faces joining the cast, such as Emma Corrin as the main villain, whose identity is still unknown; Jennifer Garner as Elektra, a former lover and enemy of Wolverine; and Taika Waititi as Korg, a rock-like alien and friend of Thor.
Deadpool 3 is expected to be full of surprises and Easter eggs for the fans, as long as they avoid the spoilers that leaked online during the filming. Reynolds himself urged the fans to respect the secrecy of the movie, saying that he loves making it and wants to preserve the magic of the big screen.
Deadpool 3 will also feature Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen, as well as Deadpool and Deadpool 2 veterans Rob Delaney (Sugar Bear), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), and Stefan Kapicic (Colossus). Reports also suggest high-profile cameos and supporting roles in the upcoming film, but Shawn Levy and the actors are attempting to keep the surprises a secret.
Deadpool & Wolverine is the ultimate MCU crossover that fans have been waiting for. It promises to be a fun, action-packed, and hilarious adventure that will change the cinematic universe forever. Don’t miss it this summer.
