Jennifer Lawrence is opening up about her experience filming the new movie Die My Love, sharing why she felt completely safe and comfortable during intimate scenes with her co-star Robert Pattinson without needing an intimacy coordinator. The Oscar winner revealed that Pattinson’s professional behavior and focus on their families created a trusting environment on set.

Creating a Comfortable Environment

While discussing the film on the Las Culturistas podcast, Lawrence explained that the production did not heavily rely on an intimacy coordinator for her scenes with Pattinson. She attributed this to the strong sense of trust and safety she felt with her co-star.

Lawrence directly addressed what made the experience different from working with some other actors, stating:

โ€œI felt really safe with him. Heโ€™s not pervy and heโ€™s very in love with Suki Waterhouse. We mostly were talking about our kids and relationships so there wasnโ€™t any weird, like, โ€˜Does he think I like him?โ€™โ€

She added that this professional dynamic isn’t always the case in the industry, noting, โ€œIf there was a little bit of that I would probably have an intimacy coordinator. A lot of male actors get offended if you donโ€™t want to f*** them, and then the punishment starts. But he was not like that, for the record.โ€

Behind the Scenes of Die My Love

Die My Love, directed by Lynne Ramsay, features Lawrence as Grace, a woman struggling with postpartum depression who enters psychosis alongside her partner Jackson, played by Pattinson. The film has generated significant Oscar buzz for Lawrence’s performance, which critics are calling career-defining.

The two actors developed their on-screen chemistry through unexpected preparation. Lawrence shared that they took dance lessons together, which she said functioned like “team building exercises” and ultimately helped with the choreography of both sex scenes and fighting scenes in the film.

Martin Scorsese originally discovered the 2012 novel Die My Love by Ariana Harwicz and sent it to Lawrence’s production company, suggesting she would be perfect for the lead role. The project was developed with director Lynne Ramsay, who co-wrote the adaptation with Enda Walsh and Alice Birch.

Lawrence’s Approach to Nudity in the Film

Lawrence filmed her nude scenes for Die My Love while four and a half months pregnant with her second child. She spoke openly about how pregnancy changed her perspective on on-screen nudity, telling audiences at a recent screening:

โ€œI donโ€™t care about nudity. Iโ€™m not sensitive about it. I think being pregnant took a lot of, like, vanity anxiety away. Before No Hard Feelings, I was dieting and not eating carbs and working out. I was pregnant [in Die My Love]. What was I gonna do? Not eat?โ€

The actress also revealed that when the editing team asked if she wanted them to digitally alter a close-up of cellulite, she firmly refused. She recalled her response: โ€œNo. Thatโ€™s an ass.โ€ Lawrence emphasized that she wanted director Lynne Ramsay to have โ€œtotal freedom artisticallyโ€ without her needing to worry about how her body appeared on screen.

Pattinson’s Perspective on Their Collaboration

In a joint interview, Pattinson discussed his approach to playing Jackson, describing his character as fundamentally romantic in his persistence to make the relationship work despite difficult circumstances. He explained that his interpretation focused on Jackson’s desire to keep trying to support his partner even when he wasn’t capable of delivering what she needed.

The collaboration between the two actors appears to have been built on mutual respect and similar working styles. Pattinson noted Lawrence’s seemingly effortless approach to challenging material, recalling how she would arrive on set for an eight-page scene asking “What are we shooting today?” while he had spent weeks preparing. Despite their different preparation styles, they found common ground in their commitment to the project.

Lawrence further explained that being pregnant during filming actually helped her performance, noting that the “animalistic state” of pregnancy aligned well with her character’s instinctual and raw journey. She mentioned her young son often visited the set, though he was more interested in the equipment than watching his mother perform intense scenes.

Die My Love opened in theaters on November 7 following its celebrated debut at the Cannes Film Festival last May, where it received a 9-minute standing ovation.
