Disney+ has revealed an exciting slate of new Korean original series set to premiere throughout 2026, featuring major stars and a wide range of genres. The announcement came from the company’s Asia Pacific content showcase event in Hong Kong, highlighting global streaming ambitions for Korean entertainment. The upcoming lineup includes romantic comedies set in alternate realities, lavish royal dramas, and intense thrillers.

Made in Korea Returns for Second Season

The political drama Made in Korea has been renewed for a second season even before its first season has finished airing. The show stars Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung as rivals in 1970s Korea. Hyun Bin plays Baek Kitae, a KCIA agent living a dangerous double life to consolidate power, while Jung Woo-sung portrays a tenacious prosecutor determined to stop him.

The first season of this period political drama is scheduled to debut on December 24, 2025. Production for the second season is already underway for a 2026 release. Jung Woo-sung shared his reason for joining the project, stating:

“I chose this project because of my co-stars, Hyun Bin and Woo Do Hwan. Forming a bond through acting together in a new project is precious among actors.”

Perfect Crown Brings Royal Romance to Disney+

The much-talked-about drama Perfect Crown will stream globally on Disney+ starting in early 2026. The series stars IU and Byeon Woo-seok in a romantic comedy set in a reimagined modern-day Korea that operates as a constitutional monarchy. The story follows Grand Prince Wan, who becomes entangled in a power struggle with other royals and enters a marriage of convenience with Heeju, the heir to a Korean conglomerate.

Both lead actors are coming off recent major successes, with IU featuring in the Netflix drama When Life Gives You Tangerines and Byeon Woo-seok starring in the popular series Lovely Runner. The series is directed by Park Joon-hwa, known for hits like Alchemy of Souls and What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim.

Gold Land Follows Dangerous Discovery

Scheduled for an April 2026 release, Gold Land is a crime and action drama starring Park Bo-young. She plays Kim Hee-Ju, a security screening agent at an international airport who accidentally comes into possession of gold bars belonging to a smuggling organization. The story follows her desperate struggle for survival as she becomes caught in a chaotic web of greed and betrayal involving various dangerous individuals.

Director Kim Sung-Hoon explained the series’ theme, saying:

“I wanted to delve deeply into human desire โ€” how vast it can be and how people attempt to manage it.”

Park Bo-young hinted at her character’s transformation, noting “I think I’ll be showing a side of myself that’s quite different from what audiences have seen before.”

The Remarried Empress Adapts Popular Webtoon

The Remarried Empress brings the hit webtoon to life in a lavish production that Disney describes as the most expensive Korean drama it has ever produced. The series stars Shin Mina as Empress Navier, the perfect empress of the Eastern Empire who receives a divorce from her husband, Emperor Sovieshu, played by Ju Ji-hoon. In response, she demands permission to remarry Prince Heinrey, portrayed by Lee Jong-suk.

The drama, which filmed in Germany and other European locations, features extravagant sets and exquisite costumes. Lee Se-young plays Rashta, a runaway slave with stunning beauty who enters the palace as Sovieshu’s concubine, marking the beginning of the downfall of his marriage to Empress Navier.

Portraits of Delusion Unveils Supernatural Mystery

Portraits of Delusion, based on the popular webtoon Delusion, is a period mystery drama set in 1935 Gyeongseong. The series stars Suzy and Kim Seon-ho and is currently shooting in Korea and Europe. Kim Seon-ho plays painter Yoon Yi Ho, who is commissioned to paint a portrait of Song Jeong Hwa, a mysterious woman played by Suzy who has remained hidden from the world for over half a century.

As he delves into her mysterious secret, he discovers that no painter has ever left the house after completing their painting, setting the stage for a supernatural mystery.

Returning Favorites and New Concepts

The action thriller A Shop for Killers will return for a second season in late 2026, continuing the story of Jian and her uncle Jinman as they turn the tables against the mercenary group Babylon. Lee Dong-wook, who returns as Jinman, teased what fans can expect:

“I think the action will be on a larger scale and even more intense than in Season 1.”

Another unique addition to the lineup is Battle of Fates, a reality competition series that pits fortune tellers, shamans, and other oracles against each other to prove their abilities. Participants will include fate interpreters, physiognomists, and tarot card readers competing in challenges designed to test their powers, with those failing the tasks facing elimination.

The 2026 K-drama lineup demonstrates Disney+’s continued investment in Korean content, offering subscribers a diverse range of stories from historical political dramas to romantic comedies and supernatural mysteries.
