The HBO limited series DTF St. Louis brings together an ensemble of acclaimed actors for its darkly comedic story of love, lies, and murder in the suburbs. The show, which premieres Sunday, March 1, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max, features Jason Bateman, David Harbour, and Linda Cardellini in a twisted tale that flashes between the aftermath of a death and the events leading up to it .

The seven-episode series from creator Steven Conrad follows a love triangle among three middle-aged adults that ends with one of them dead. Here is a complete look at who plays who in the HBO original.

Jason Bateman Is Clark Forrest

Jason Bateman stars as Clark Forrest, a local weatherman in St. Louis who finds himself at the center of a complicated affair. According to the official logline, Clark is having a relationship with Carol, who is married to his friend and coworker Floyd .

The character takes a manipulative turn when he suggests Floyd try a dating app called DTF St. Louis, claiming it will help reignite passion in his marriage. The suggestion comes as Clark hopes to break up his friendโ€™s marriage so he can continue his affair with Carol .

Bateman also serves as an executive producer on the series through his Aggregate Films banner. His previous collaborations with HBO include the critically praised drama Ozark, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing .

David Harbour Is Floyd Smernitch

David Harbour plays Floyd Smernitch, a sign language interpreter whose death sets the mystery in motion. The series opens with Floydโ€™s untimely demise before flashing back to explore the relationships and events that led to that moment .

Floyd is married to Carol and works alongside Clark, unaware of the affair between his wife and his friend. Harbour described the character as a man experiencing the kind of middle-age restlessness that makes him vulnerable to Clarkโ€™s manipulative advice about the dating app .

The Stranger Things star also executive produces the series. Harbour was attached to the project in its earliest stages when it was still developing under a different title and concept .

Linda Cardellini Is Carol Love-Smernitch

Linda Cardellini completes the central love triangle as Carol Love-Smernitch, Floydโ€™s wife and Clarkโ€™s secret lover. Her character finds herself torn between two men, with devastating consequences .

Carolโ€™s affair with Clark drives much of the plot, as the two attempt to navigate their relationship while keeping it hidden from Floyd. The official synopsis suggests Carol becomes a person of interest as detectives investigate Floydโ€™s death .

Cardellini brings experience with dark comedy-dramas to the role, having starred in Netflixโ€™s Dead to Me for three seasons. She also has previous HBO credits including Bloodline and Freaks and Geeks .

Richard Jenkins Is Detective Donoghue Homer

Two-time Oscar nominee Richard Jenkins portrays Detective Donoghue Homer, the police investigator assigned to Floydโ€™s case. His character works to unravel the mystery while navigating the lies and secrets of everyone connected to the victim .

Jenkins brings a gravitas to the procedural elements of the story, serving as the audienceโ€™s guide through the non-linear narrative. The actor recently earned an Emmy nomination for his role in Netflixโ€™s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story .

Joy Sunday Is Officer Jodie Plumb

Joy Sunday, known for her role in Netflixโ€™s Wednesday, joins the cast as Jodie Plumb, a Special Crimes Officer working alongside Detective Homer. Her character assists in the investigation that uncovers the tangled relationships between Floyd, Carol, and Clark .

Sundayโ€™s casting was announced in February 2025 as the series moved into production. She joins the project following her breakout role as Bianca Barclay in the hit Addams Family spinoff .

Arlan Ruf Is Richard

Arlan Ruf takes on the role of Richard, who is identified as Floydโ€™s stepson. The character adds family complexity to the story, dealing with the aftermath of his stepfatherโ€™s death while navigating his motherโ€™s involvement with another man .

Ruf steps into the series as part of the ensemble rounding out the suburban St. Louis community where the drama unfolds.

Peter Sarsgaard in a Key Role

Peter Sarsgaard appears in an undisclosed but significant role. The Dopesick and The Killing actor adds depth to the supporting cast, though HBO has kept specific character details under wraps to preserve plot surprises .

Sarsgaard has built a career playing complex characters in both film and television, making him a fitting addition to Conradโ€™s morally ambiguous world.

Chris Perfetti Is “Tiger Tiger”

Abbott Elementary star Chris Perfetti brings his comedy credentials to the series as a character named Tiger Tiger. The unusual name suggests the kind of quirky, offbeat choices typical of creator Steven Conradโ€™s work .

Perfetti continues his run of television work following his SAG Award-winning role in the ABC mockumentary series, where he plays earnest teacher Jacob Hill .

Additional Cast Members

The ensemble also includes Chastity Dotson as Clara and Wynn Everett as Eimy, adding more faces to the suburban landscape where secrets multiply . HBO has confirmed a full cast of characters who populate the world of Floyd, Carol, and Clark.

The Creative Team Behind the Series

Steven Conrad serves as writer, director, and showrunner for DTF St. Louis. The creator of Prime Videoโ€™s Patriot and the animated series Ultra City Smiths brings his signature style to this murder mystery .

The executive production team includes Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch for Escape Artists; Molly Allen; Bruce Terris; Michael Nelson; Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films; KC Wenson for Bravo Axolotl; Jennifer Scher for Elephant Pictures; and James Lasdun. MGM Television produces.

A Unique ASL Presentation

In a distinctive move, HBO will offer each episode of DTF St. Louis streamed in American Sign Language alongside the standard version. Justin Jackerson, known for It: Welcome to Derry, provides the ASL dubbing, with Leila Hanaumi directing. Hanaumiโ€™s credits include work on Barbie and The Last of Us .
