What to Expect in Season 5: A Tale of Two Cities
Season 4 ended with Emily making a big change. She moved to Rome to open a new office for her boss Sylvie’s company, Agence Grateau. This happened after she started a romantic relationship with a handsome Italian man named Marcello.
“This season is a tale of two cities: Rome and Paris,” said Darren Star, the show’s creator. “Straddling both, Emily takes love and life to the next level.”
So, while Emily is exploring Rome, the show is not leaving Paris behind. The official description for Season 5 says Emily will face both work and love problems in her new city. A big idea at work will fail, causing trouble for her career and her heart. She will also have to deal with a secret that could hurt one of her closest friendships.
Lily Collins, who plays Emily, talked about her character’s new romance with Marcello. “Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily… We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition,” Collins said.
But what about Gabriel, Emily’s on-again, off-again boyfriend from Paris? At the end of last season, he realized he wanted to be with Emily, but it might be too late. Collins hinted at trouble, saying, “Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice”.

One character who will not return is Camille, played by Camille Razat. The actress confirmed earlier this year that she left the show.
