The latest episode of FBI took viewers back in time to understand what made Eva Ramos leave her job as a prosecutor and join the Bureau. The show’s 150th episode, titled “Crusader,” aired on CBS on March 23, 2026, and it was a heavy one for the newest member of the team.

The case started with a terrible accident. Two children and a daycare worker lost their lives after being accidentally exposed to drugs. When Eva (Juliana Aidén Martinez) started tracing where the drugs came from, she found herself face-to-face with Hector Vega (Noel Guglielmi) , a drug kingpin from her past as a young prosecutor. Years ago, Eva had a witness ready to testify against Vega, but he killed that witness the day before the trial. Vega got away, and that failure pushed Eva to leave the U.S. Attorney’s office and join the FBI.

A Deal That Hurts

When Vega surfaces again, he offers the team information about a bigger threat—someone in New York dealing synthetic opioids. Isobel (Alana De La Garza) decides they have to work with him, even if Eva hates it. For Eva, this feels like her second chance to finally put Vega away. She fights against making a deal with him, wanting to find any way to take him down without giving him a pass.

But the case is bigger than just her personal feelings. The team has to focus on the larger drug operation. During the sting operation to catch the main target, Turner, Vega gets shot. In the chaos that follows, Vega escapes. By the time anyone checks on him, he is gone, leaving only his bulletproof vest behind.

Trust and Partnership

Throughout the episode, Eva struggles with whether to trust her new partner, Scola (John Boyd) . She keeps him in the dark about her history with Vega at first. Juliana Aidén Martinez explained in an interview that this comes from Eva’s past. Her last partner betrayed her, so she is slow to open up.

“Do I trust him? Do I trust him with the ugly parts, with the shameful parts of me? Can I trust that he’ll have my back?” Martinez said about Eva’s mindset.

OA (Zeeko Zaki) gives Eva some helpful advice. He reminds her that if she wants a true partnership, she needs to let Scola in. By the end of the episode, Eva finally opens up to Scola. She admits the case brought her back to those dark days when she was a prosecutor. Scola tells her she is no longer that person because now she has him backing her up.

Martinez called that scene her favorite to film, saying it was “very tenuous and fragile” and allowed her to “take the veil off a little bit.”

Eva’s Pain After Vega’s Escape

The ending left Eva hurting. She had a second chance to catch Vega, and he got away again. Martinez described Eva’s feelings simply.

“It hurts. It hurts, Meredith. It hurts. Even my heart hurts, as I’m saying it hurts because this was her second chance,” Martinez told TV Insider. “When you get the second chance, you’re like, ‘Oh, I’m not going to mess this up. I’m going to do everything right now. This is not going to get away from me again.’”

Fans saw a different side of Eva in this episode. She was stubborn and driven, but also showed her flaws. Martinez said she likes that about the character, explaining that “people, even if they do such noble and heroic things, they have flaws about them.”

Will Hector Vega Return?

The episode ended with Vega still out there. The writers left the door open for him to come back. Martinez mentioned that the writers enjoyed working with Noel Guglielmi, who played Vega. She said she could see Vega returning in the future, but nothing is confirmed yet.

For now, Eva has to deal with the fact that the man who changed her career path got away from her twice.

What’s Next for Eva

Martinez shared that after this episode, viewers will see Eva become more integrated with the team. As trust builds between her and Scola, she will open up more. The actor also joked about what she would like to see for Eva in the future—maybe even a romantic storyline.

“I’m curious what it would be like for her to even talk to someone romantically,” Martinez said. “I feel like she wants what Scola and Nina have.”

The next episode of FBI will feature a crossover with FBI: CIA, but Martinez confirmed she did not have scenes with Necar Zadegan’s character in that episode. Still, she said she would love to see Eva appear on the spin-off show in the future, especially given Eva’s legal background.

The episode was written by Mike Weiss and directed by Carlos Bernard. It marked the 150th episode of the long-running CBS drama, which continues to air new episodes every Monday night.
