The upcoming anime adaptation of the popular dark romance manga Firefly Wedding has shared exciting new details with fans. On March 25, 2026, the official website released the first teaser trailer, a second teaser visual, and confirmed the main voice cast along with additional production staff. The series is scheduled to premiere on Fuji TV in October 2026.

The new teaser gives viewers a clear look at the story’s central conflict. The heroine, Satoko Kirigaya, is a nobleman’s daughter who is terminally ill and has little time left. When she is kidnapped and targeted for death by a professional assassin named Shinpei Gotō, her life takes an unexpected turn. Instead of accepting her fate, Satoko makes a desperate choice—she proposes marriage to the man sent to kill her.

Main Voice Cast Announced for Firefly Wedding

The production team has chosen two experienced voice actors to bring the lead characters to life. Lynn will voice Satoko Kirigaya, the noblewoman fighting for survival. Lynn has previously voiced Sakura Yamauchi in I Want to Eat Your Pancreas, Princess Hibana in Fire Force, and Columbina in Genshin Impact.

Kōki Uchiyama takes on the role of Shinpei Gotō, the assassin who becomes dangerously devoted to Satoko. Uchiyama is well known for his work as Kei Tsukishima in Haikyuu!!, Tomura Shigaraki in My Hero Academia, and Toge Inumaki in Jujutsu Kaisen. He also voiced Shinpei in the manga’s drama CD, making this a familiar role for him.

Production Team Brings Strong Experience to the Series

The anime is being produced by David Production, the studio behind JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Cells at Work. Takahiro Kamei, who directed the 2022-2024 version of Urusei Yatsura, is serving as director.

Yukiko Aikei, known for character design work on Your Lie in April and Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop, is designing the characters. Yūko Kakihara, who worked on The Apothecary Diaries and Summer Time Rendering, is handling series composition and scripts. NOGRID is composing the music.

Second Teaser Visual Shows the Dynamic Between Characters

Along with the teaser trailer, the team released a new visual showing both lead characters standing under a night sky filled with glowing fireflies. The image connects to the series title and shows Shinpei on the ground with blood on him, looking up at Satoko. The artwork immediately sets up the power dynamic between the two characters.

The Original Manga Has Already Finished Its Run

The Firefly Wedding anime adapts the manga by Oreko Tachibana, which was published in Japan through Shogakukan’s Manga ONE app. The series ran from January 2023 until February 2026, with the final chapter released on February 2, 2026. Shogakukan published 11 volumes of the manga, with the last volume arriving on February 19, 2026.

Since the manga is complete, the anime adaptation will have access to the full story. VIZ Media holds the license for the English version and describes the story as:

On the surface, Satoko has it all—she’s beautiful, the daughter of a nobleman, and at a prime age for marriage. Unfortunately, she is also quite ill and only has a short time left to live. Before she can secure a marriage that will redeem her worth in her family’s eyes, she finds herself the target of the mysterious assassin Shinpei, and her plans are put in jeopardy. In order to save herself, she makes a desperate proposal—of marriage! When it comes to love, however, Shinpei takes “until death do we part” seriously.

What to Expect From the Story

The story is set during the Meiji era and follows Satoko, a count’s daughter who has a secret heart condition. She wants to marry for the good of her family before her time runs out. But her plans change when she gets kidnapped and meets Shinpei, a legendary assassin hired to kill her. When she realizes she cannot escape, she asks him to marry her as a way to stay alive. What starts as a lie becomes complicated when Shinpei takes their “engagement” seriously and shows an intense, consuming love for Satoko.

The manga gained a large following for its dark romance themes and complex characters. It sold over 3.5 million copies and won the grand prize at the 2024 Denshi Comic Taishō awards. It was also ranked first on the Nationwide Bookstore Employees’ Recommended Comics list in 2024.

The series will air on Fuji TV’s noitaminA programming block, known for airing critically acclaimed anime. Viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other global regions will likely be able to stream the series through platforms like Crunchyroll or other services that typically license noitaminA titles, though specific streaming partners have not been announced yet.
