Netflix has released the first photos for His & Hers, a new psychological thriller series starring Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal. The limited series, based on Alice Feeney’s popular novel, is set to premiere on January 8, 2026. The images offer a first glimpse of Thompson and Bernthal in their roles as two people connected by a murder investigation where everyone has a different version of the truth.

The Story Behind the Mystery

His & Hers is a mystery thriller set in the heat of Atlanta. Tessa Thompson plays Anna, a former news anchor living as a recluse, disconnected from her career and friends. Her life is shaken when she hears about a murder in her quiet hometown of Dahlonega. Anna becomes obsessed with the case, searching for her own answers.

Jon Bernthal plays Detective Jack Harper, an investigator who finds Anna’s interest in the murder strangely suspicious. He begins to chase her, pulling her into the center of his own investigation. The core of the story is that there are two sides to every storyโ€”his and hersโ€”which means someone is not telling the truth. The series will explore the complicated history between Anna and Jack, who are actually estranged husband and wife, with their relationship strained by past loss and betrayal.

Meet the Characters and Cast

The series features a strong ensemble cast bringing a web of characters to life.

  • Tessa Thompson as Anna Andrews: A once-famous news anchor for WSK TV News who has retreated from public life. The murder in her hometown pulls her back into the world, and she returns to reporting to cover the case.
  • Jon Bernthal as Detective Jack Harper: A detective working for the sheriff’s office in his hometown of Dahlonega. He is a good man who sometimes makes bad decisions and is deeply troubled by the murder case. He lives with his sister and niece.
  • Pablo Schreiber as Richard: One of the best camera operators at the news station and the husband of Lexy Jones, the new anchor who replaced Anna.
  • Crystal Fox as Alice: Anna’s mother, a strong-willed woman who still lives in Dahlonega. Her health is declining, and she has a complicated relationship with her daughter.
  • Sunita Mani as Priya: Jack’s new partner at the sheriff’s office. She is eager, quirky, and fascinated by murder.
  • Rebecca Rittenhouse as Lexy: The ambitious new anchor who took over Anna’s coveted position at the news station.
  • Marin Ireland as Zoe: Jack’s sharp-tongued sister, with whom he is staying.
  • Poppy Liu as Helen Wang: The headmistress of St. Hilary’s Academy and a friend of the murder victim, who becomes irritated by Anna’s reporting.

The Creative Team and Production

His & Hers was developed by filmmaker William Oldroyd, who also directed the first episode and serves as a co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer. The showrunner is Dee Johnson, who also writes and executive produces. The writing team includes Bill Dubuque.

Tessa Thompson also serves as an executive producer on the project. Other executive producers include Jessica Chastain and Kelly Carmichael for Freckle Films, Kristen Campo for Campout Productions, and Kishori Rajan for Viva Maude. The studio producing the series is Fifth Season.

Filming for the six-episode limited series began in Atlanta, Georgia in late September 2024. Tessa Thompson shared her excitement about the project, stating:

โ€œI am beyond elated to be collaborating with a filmmaker I have long admired and an incredible team to make a fresh offering in a genre that I can never get enough of. From the second I heard what Will was imagining doing with Alice Feeneyโ€™s brilliant book to the moment I visited the town where our story is set, I was hooked.โ€
