Hollywood’s favorite wisecracking mercenary, Deadpool, might bring laughter to millions, but for Ryan Reynolds’ children, the character’s red and black suit is the stuff of nightmares!
While fans eagerly await the release of the upcoming Marvel movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” hitting theaters in July, it seems Reynolds’ own household has a very different experience with the anti-hero.
The Not-So-Imaginary Friend in the Basement
During a recent appearance on the “Today” show, Reynolds, promoting his new film “IF,” revealed a hilarious anecdote about his children and his iconic Deadpool suit. The 47-year-old actor is married to actress Blake Lively and they share four children together.
Reynolds, known for his comedic timing, plays a character in “IF” who helps children deal with their imaginary friends. He jokingly mentioned that while his children might have imaginary friends, Deadpool is definitely not one of them!
“My daughter Betty has a very vivid imagination,” Reynolds said. “There’s always somebody standing behind me and I turn around quickly like a horror movie and I realize no, it’s just Harvey from the old movie Harvey. It’s a 6 ft 5 rabbit.”
The conversation then took a turn when the show’s host playfully remarked, “At least it’s not Deadpool. That would be…that’s NSFK (Not Safe For Kids).”
The Basement Incident and a Screaming Match
Here’s where things get interesting. Reynolds admitted that keeping the original Deadpool suit at home might have been a mistake.
“I have ruined it for my kids because I house the original Deadpool suit, like a mold of my body downstairs in the basement,” he revealed.
Recalling a funny yet terrifying incident, Reynolds described how one night, one of his children went down to the basement and saw the silhouette of the suit hanging there. The sight was so shocking that the child “screamed bloody murder.”
“I ran down there because I forgot it was down there and I screamed bloody murder,” Reynolds continued. “So yeah, no, everybody’s pretty well damaged.”
Ryan Reynolds: Action Hero Dad & Family Life
The anecdote highlights the balancing act that celebrities like Reynolds face between their action hero personas and their roles as parents. While audiences worldwide enjoy Reynolds’ comedic portrayal of Deadpool, it seems the character’s dark and edgy appearance can be quite frightening for young children, especially when encountered unexpectedly.
With the upcoming release of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Reynolds is sure to be back in the spotlight. However, this story serves as a reminder that even superheroes have to deal with everyday challenges, like keeping their kids safe from…well, themselves!
