The K-pop girl group fromis_9 is embarking on a fresh chapter with a new agency, ASND (Ascend), after their departure from PLEDIS Entertainment. Five members โ Song Ha Young, Park Jiwon, Lee Nagyung, Lee Chaeyoung, and Baek Ji Heon โ have signed with the newly formed label and shared their first introductory video, sparking excitement among fans. A key question remains: will they continue to promote under the name fromis_9?
A New Beginning at ASND
ASND officially announced the group’s new start with a 28-second teaser video posted on their X account. The caption included the group’s name in both Korean and English, along with the hashtag “(#fromis_9)”. In the video, the five members shared heartfelt reflections, expressing sentiments like, “It’s hard to describe in just one word, but we’re embracing a new beginning,” and “It feels so calm and heartfelt.” The video concluded with the touching phrase, “I miss you.”
This teaser immediately ignited a wave of positive reactions from fans online. Many expressed their happiness and support with comments such as, “fromis_9 is back on track,” “Iโm in tears,” and “They kept the name!” One enthusiastic fan wrote, “Welcome back, our queens.”
Uncertainty Around the Group Name
Back in January 2025, ASND had mentioned that discussions were ongoing with PLEDIS Entertainment, fromis_9‘s former agency under HYBE Corporation, regarding the continued use of the group name. As of now, ASND has not provided any further updates on these discussions, and PLEDIS Entertainment has also remained silent on the matter. This leaves the question of the group’s name still unanswered. It’s worth noting that another group previously under HYBE, NewJeans, reportedly changed their name to NJZ after parting ways with ADOR, adding to the speculation surrounding fromis_9‘s future name.
fromis_9’s Journey So Far
fromis_9 was originally formed in 2017 through the Mnet reality show Idol School and made their debut in January 2018 with eight members: Roh Ji Sun, Song Ha Young, Lee Sae Rom, Lee Chae Young, Lee Na Gyung, Park Ji Won, Lee Seo Yeon, Baek Ji Heon, and Jang Gyu Ri. After six years under PLEDIS Entertainment, their contracts officially ended on December 31, 2023.
Following the expiration of their contracts, the group members decided to move forward in different directions. The five members who signed with ASND are continuing their journey as a group, while three other members โ Lee Seo Yeon, Roh Ji Sun, and Lee Sae Rom โ have chosen to pursue solo careers. Notably, Lee Seo Yeon is reportedly preparing to make her debut as an actress.
