The popular variety series “GBRB” (also known by its Korean title “Kong Kong Pat Pat” or “Reap What You Sow”) is returning with a new spin-off. On September 24, tvN released two teaser videos for the upcoming show, “GBRB: Joy Pops Laugh Pops,” which sees the return of the fan-favorite trio Lee Kwang Soo, Kim Woo Bin, and Doh Kyung Soo. This time, the friends are off on an overseas trip to Mexico, but the journey quickly proves to be anything but a relaxing vacation.
The new series is the second spin-off of the original farming-themed show, following the recent success of the restaurant-focused spin-off. This time, the show’s concept is to follow the employees of the fictional company “KKPP Food” on an “insight trip” to help the company grow. As the company’s CEO, Lee Kwang Soo is joined by Director Doh Kyung Soo and newcomer Kim Woo Bin, who steps in as an internal auditor. The teasers give a good idea of the challenges that will come their way, especially as they are in charge of their own travel plans, including managing a tight budget.
A Trip Plagued By Unforeseen Issues
The first teaser shows the three stars struggling to handle the realities of their trip. Lee Kwang Soo, known for his dramatic reactions, is seen complaining about the lack of funds and the miserable living conditions. “We can’t broaden our horizons because we’re broke,” he exclaims in one scene, while in another, he laments, “I can’t sleep because it stinks. The ants are driving me crazy and making me itch. How am I supposed to broaden my horizons?” The teaser’s most comical moment happens when he declares, “To be honest, we’ve been scammed. My mom would be in tears if she saw this.” His constant struggle with the show’s name also adds to the humor, as he admits he doesn’t even know what it is called.
What the Teasers Show
The first teaser focuses on the group’s chaotic and funny moments, showing their trip is filled with unexpected problems. Viewers can see the trio trying to earn more money to support their travels, which involves taking on various missions.
The second teaser, a much shorter clip, is more mysterious. It features the three actors sitting in a small boat on the water, all wearing facial masks. Their serious expressions suggest the journey will have its tough moments, but the sight of them with face packs on in such a setting is funny in itself.
The show’s poster reflects this mix of seriousness and humor. It features Lee Kwang Soo, Kim Woo Bin, and Doh Kyung Soo with solemn expressions, raising their hands in a strange pose that makes viewers curious about what kind of troubles they have gotten into. The show is directed by producer Na Young Seok, known for many popular variety shows, which further adds to the hype. The new series, a comic documentary of a trip between real-life friends, is set to premiere on Friday, October 17, at 8:40 p.m. KST on tvN.
