Isaac Higgintoot takes his political dreams to the basement, while Bela finds herself in an awkward fake dating situation with Kyle in the latest episode of the CBS comedy series. The episode, titled “The Water Heater,” aired on April 2, 2026.
A simple broken water heater at Woodstone B&B turns into a full-on political campaign. Sam and Jay just want to fix their appliance, but Isaac sees this as his chance to finally win an election after failing upstairs. He decides to run for representative of the basement ghosts, a group he normally avoids because of their strange habits and love for the gurgling sound of the water heater.
Isaac Takes His Campaign to the Basement
Isaac has tried and failed to win political office among the main house ghosts. Now he sets his sights on the basement crew. These ghosts have their own way of doing things. They have strange rules, including staying silent while waiting for the water heater to make its gurgling noise.
The basement ghosts live in dark, dirty conditions. They include Nancy, Creepy Dirk, and several others who rarely see the light of day. Isaac normally looks down on them, but now he needs their votes. He has to learn their customs and respect their strange traditions if he wants to win.
Sam and Jay get caught in the middle of this political mess. They just want to replace the broken water heater, but Isaac turns every decision into a campaign talking point. The simple home repair becomes a big fight about representation and who gets a say in the mansion’s upgrades.
Kyle Tries to Make Bela Jealous with Hetty
While Isaac works the basement crowd, a different kind of drama plays out upstairs. Kyle, played by Ben Feldman, returns to Woodstone. He tries to make Bela jealous by pretending to date Hetty.
Bela is Jay’s sister who knows about the ghosts. She has had her own complicated love life, including a relationship with Eric who briefly became a ghost himself. Kyle thinks making her jealous will win her back, but his plan involves faking a romance with a ghost from the Gilded Age.
Hetty plays along with Kyle’s strange plan. She enjoys the attention and the chance to feel young again. Hetty normally acts proper and upper class, so pretending to date a living person creates awkward and funny moments. Kyle has to pretend he can see and hear Hetty, which means talking to empty air in front of other people.
Ben Feldman has appeared on “Ghosts” several times before as Kyle. He first showed up in Season 4 as a living person who can also see ghosts, which immediately created a connection with Sam and complicated her relationship with Jay. Now he returns to cause trouble for Bela.
