Jinyoung, a member of GOT7, has shared insights into his character, Lee Dong Jin, in Channel A’s upcoming drama, “The Witch.” He also spoke about why he chose this project, his first acting role since returning from military service, and his experience working alongside co-star Roh Jeong Eui.

The drama tells the story of Lee Dong Jin, who falls deeply in love with the mysterious Park Mi Jeong (Roh Jeong Eui). However, his love is met with rejection, and Park Mi Jeong’s life is tragically marked by a series of deaths, leading to her being labeled a “witch.”

Jinyoung’s Reasons for Choosing the Role and Character Insights

Jinyoung explained his interest in playing Dong Jin:

“The idea of wanting to protect someone you love from afar felt incredibly fresh, and I was also curious about how director Kim Tae Kyun would bring it to life.”

He described his character as:

“Dong Jin is like a genius who focuses intensely on one thing at a time.”

Jinyoung was drawn to Dong Jin’s dedication and his relentless efforts to clear Park Mi Jeong’s name. He elaborated on how he portrayed Dong Jin’s intense focus:

“When he’s (Dong Jin) working or investigating the curse tied to Mi Jung, I wanted to portray the feeling that he’s so absorbed, it’s as if he doesn’t hear or see anything else around him.”

Working with Roh Jeong Eui and Portraying Emotional Depth

Jinyoung expressed his appreciation for his co-star:

“She provided a sense of stability when we worked together and made it easy for me to bring out my emotions.”

He also discussed the challenges of portraying Dong Jin’s emotional depth:

“It was important to first find a tone I could believe in for someone who is so absorbed in his own world.”

Jinyoung also gave a small hint about the plot:

“As Dong Jin uncovers the laws of the witch and ultimately comes to a realization about his feelings, following that journey will make the drama all the more enjoyable.”

“The Witch” is scheduled to premiere every Saturday and Sunday, starting February 15, 2025.
