Gwyneth Paltrow has opened up about filming intimate scenes with Timothée Chalamet for their new movie Marty Supreme. The Oscar-winning actress called the process “very mechanical” and said there’s “no romance” behind the scenes.

Paltrow, 52, stars as Chalamet’s love interest in the upcoming romantic drama. The film marks her first major role since Avengers: Endgame in 2019. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, she shared candid details about their steamy scenes.

“You’re making out with someone you’re not in a relationship with. There’s no romance. It’s very mechanical,” Paltrow said. She compared the experience to “choreography but involving tongues.”

Despite the lack of real-life passion, Paltrow had high praise for Chalamet. She called him “a wonderful young man” and praised his professionalism. “He’s very polite, very talented, just so nice to be with,” she added.

The film, directed by Josh Safdie, is set in the 1950s and follows the story of a professional ping-pong player. While plot details are scarce, Paltrow previously revealed that her character shares “a lot of sex” with Chalamet’s character.

Paltrow also talked about returning to acting after years away. She admitted feeling nervous but said it was the right time. With her children now grown and out of the house, she felt ready to focus on her career again.

“My son and stepson both went to college for the first time. They’re both freshmen, and my daughter and stepdaughter have gone already a couple of years ago,” she explained. “So the nest is empty, and I feel like there’s this really grief-filled part of it. Then there’s this part of it where maybe I can explore my own creativity again.”

The actress also discussed working with an intimacy coordinator, a new experience for her. She joked about her old-school approach to filming such scenes. “I’m from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera’s on,” she said.

Marty Supreme is set to premiere on December 25, 2025. Fans are already buzzing about Paltrow and Chalamet’s on-screen chemistry, even if the behind-the-scenes reality is less glamorous.

Social media reactions have been mixed. Some fans were shocked by the pairing, while others praised Paltrow’s honesty.

“Timothee Chalamet will have a kissing scene with Gwyneth Paltrow in Marty Supreme wtf I’m not ready for this,” one fan wrote.

“Never thought I’d see Timothée kissing Gwyneth Paltrow but here we are,” another added.

Paltrow’s husband, Brad Falchuk, doesn’t seem bothered by the scenes. When asked about his reaction, she said he was “unthreatened” and confident in their relationship.

“Not because T.Chal isn’t AWESOME, but he knows he’s got my whole [heart],” she shared on Instagram.

The film also stars Tyler, the Creator and Fran Drescher, who plays Chalamet’s mother. Set photos show the actors in vintage 1950s outfits, with Paltrow in a red gown and Chalamet in a sharp suit.

Paltrow’s return to acting has been a big talking point. After years of focusing on her wellness brand, Goop, she’s stepping back into the spotlight. She admitted that fame wasn’t always easy but said she’s excited to try acting again.

“Being a kid who’s like living every breakup on every headline, like being criticized for everything you do say and wear… It’s hard to plant roots,” she said about her early career.
