A new biography about Gwyneth Paltrow reveals shocking details about her past relationship with Brad Pitt. The book, titled “Gwyneth: The Biography” by Amy Odell, claims that Paltrow felt she was “better educated” and “more sophisticated” than Pitt during their time together in the 1990s.
The actress, now 52, dated Pitt from 1994 to 1997 after meeting on the set of “Se7en.” They got engaged in 1996 but broke up a year later. According to the book, Paltrow often questioned their relationship due to their different backgrounds.
Gwyneth Paltrow Felt Brad Pitt Wasn’t Sophisticated Enough
The biography highlights Paltrow’s belief that she and Pitt came from very different worlds. She grew up in Manhattan, attended the elite Spence School, and was raised in a wealthy, Hollywood-connected family. Pitt, on the other hand, was raised in a religious household in Missouri.
“Brad and I had very different upbringings,” Paltrow once told an interviewer. “So when we go to restaurants and order caviar, I have to say to Brad, ‘This is beluga and this is osetra.’”
This comment sparked backlash online, with many calling Paltrow “insufferable” and “classist.”
“Classic classist snob with no taste, no humor,” one Reddit user wrote. “Please educate us more on the differences between caviar and keep preaching about how to not eat.”
Another person added:
“I simply have no words. To be so out of touch with reality that you think that sentence is in any way relatable is astonishing.”
Paltrow Admitted Doubts About Their Relationship
While filming “Emma” in 1996, Paltrow reportedly told a crew member that she wasn’t sure if Pitt was right for her. She even admitted to having a crush on Hugh Grant at the time.
The book also claims that Pitt felt “threatened” by Paltrow’s success after “Emma” became a hit. She allegedly cried to her friend, makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, multiple times about their relationship struggles.
“He wanted to be with her but seemed to feel threatened by her success and all the attention she received,” the book states. “Aucoin’s advice to Gwyneth was frank: ‘You really need to end this.’”
Paltrow’s Reaction to Brad Pitt Marrying Jennifer Aniston
After their breakup, Pitt moved on with Jennifer Aniston, marrying her in 2000. The book reveals that Paltrow was “sad” when she heard the news.
During a 2000 interview at the Toronto Film Festival, a reporter asked Paltrow how she felt about Pitt’s marriage to Aniston.
“Are you really asking me this question?” Paltrow replied, her eyes turning to “daggers.” “I can’t comment on this kind of thing.”
However, behind the scenes, she confided in friends about her true feelings.
“In reality, Gwyneth confided to friends that she’d felt sad when she learned they were getting married,” the book says. “(She was also fond of telling them that Brad ‘has terrible taste in women.’)”
Later that year, Paltrow allegedly made another harsh comment about Pitt during a dinner with Estée Lauder heiress Aerin Lauder.
“At one dinner, the two were talking about Brad Pitt. According to someone familiar with the discussion, Gwyneth allegedly told her, ‘He’s dumber than a sack of st,’”** the book claims.
Why Did Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt Break Up?
The couple never publicly explained their split, but rumors suggested Paltrow may have cheated with her “Sliding Doors” co-star John Hannah.
In a 2015 interview with Howard Stern, Paltrow hinted at the reason for their breakup:
“I wasn’t ready, and he was too good for me.”
After Pitt, Paltrow dated Ben Affleck, who was struggling with alcoholism and gambling at the time. She later married Chris Martin of Coldplay in 2003, divorcing in 2016. She is now married to producer Brad Falchuk.
Social Media Reacts to Paltrow’s Comments
Many fans criticized Paltrow for her remarks about Pitt’s intelligence and background.
“She is exhausting,” one person wrote.
Another added:
“I want to hate her, but most of this is so out of touch that it’s actually funny rather than offensive.”
Despite the backlash, some admitted they would still read the book.
“I’d actually read this book lol,” a user commented.
