The second part of Netflix’s Taiwanese mystery series Had I Not Seen The Sun will be released on December 11, 2025. The show’s first ten episodes began streaming on November 13, with the final ten episodes concluding the story just four weeks later. The series follows a serial killer’s dark past and his connection to a documentary filmmaker.

What Is The Story About?

The series tells the story of Li Jen-yao, a 25-year-old who turns himself in to the police and confesses to being the serial “Rainstorm Killer.” This nickname came from a series of murders he committed against his high school classmates, all during rainy days. While he admitted to the crimes, he never revealed his motives.

While in prison, Jen-yao refuses all visitors except for Chou Pin-yu, an aspiring documentarian. As they meet, Pin-yu begins to experience troubling dreams and visions. She sees a mysterious schoolgirl, Chiang Hsiao-tung, who is connected to Jen-yao’s past. These visions start to blur the line between reality and illusion, pulling Pin-yu deeper into a hidden story of love, tragedy, and revenge from Jen-yao’s high school years.

Director Chiang Chi-cheng explained the show’s central symbolism, stating:

โ€œMoths and butterflies are attracted to lightโ€”yet one only appears at night, while the other dances in the day. In this story, they symbolize two people from different worlds, destined never to fly under the same sky.โ€

What To Expect In The Final Episodes

Part 1 of the series built a complex narrative moving between 2023, with Pin-yu’s prison interviews, and flashbacks to Jen-yao’s traumatic youth. The story revealed his deep bond with Chiang Hsiao-tung, a kind ballet dancer, and the brutal bullying they faced from a group of classmates led by Ouyang Ti. A traumatic event involving Hsiao-tung set Jen-yao on a path of vengeance, leading to his first violent attack and imprisonment.

The concluding episodes are expected to dive deeper into several key mysteries. The story will likely explore Li Jen-yao’s full transformation into the Rainstorm Killer and reveal the true fate of Chiang Hsiao-tung. The identity of a mysterious blind woman, who appears in the present day and shares a distinctive butterfly tattoo with Hsiao-tung, is also set to be a major focus. Furthermore, the connection between documentarian Chou Pin-yu and the past events will become clearer as her visions intensify.

Director and writer Chien Chi-feng has said the series is built around the theme of “irreversibility.”

โ€œGrowing up, we were taught that wounds heal with time. Yet as we get older, we realize that many wounds are irreversible and cannot be healed. Through the series, we hope to encourage everyone to cherish the people and things around them, and to embrace every life that has been hurt.โ€

The Creative Team And Cast

Had I Not Seen The Sun comes from the award-winning creators behind the popular series Someday or One Day. The show is directed by Chiang Chi-cheng and Golden Bell winner Chien Chi-feng.

The series features a standout performance from Tseng Jing-hua as the complex lead character, Li Jen-yao. He is joined by Moon Lee, who plays the pivotal role of Chiang Hsiao-tung, and Chiang Chi, who plays documentary filmmaker Chou Pin-yu. The ensemble cast includes Lyan Chen, Umin Boya, and Yao Chun-yao, among others.

Lead actor Tseng Jing-hua described the show’s evolution, noting:

โ€œThe series transitions from a campus youth romance into dark suspense. It conveys the profound experiences of emotional separation, as well as healing and forgiveness. These characters will take the audience through emotional highs and lows, embodying both light and darkness.โ€

All twenty episodes of the series are streaming globally on Netflix, with Part 1 available now and Part 2 arriving on December 11, 2025.
