The first part of the Taiwanese Netflix series “Had I Not Seen the Sun“ concluded with a major cliffhanger, leaving viewers eager for the next installment. Part 1, which premiered on November 13, 2025, introduced us to the tragic story of Li Jen-yao, a death row prisoner known as the Rainstorm Killer, and his profound connection with a ballet dancer named Chiang Hsiao-tung. The ten-episode second part is scheduled to arrive on December 11, 2025, and is expected to dive deeper into the dark transformation and motivations of its central character.
The narrative is set to intensify, shifting from the foundational tragedy established in Part 1 toward a story of brutal revenge and the unveiling of long-buried secrets.
The Central Mystery: What Happened to Hsiao-tung?
A primary question driving the story into Part 2 is the fate of Chiang Hsiao-tung. In the present timeline, she is widely believed to have disappeared, with rumors suggesting she took her own life. However, the ending of Part 1 introduced a compelling twist: a blind woman who bears a striking resemblance to Hsiao-tung, complete with an identical butterfly tattoo on her middle finger. This encounter fills Jen-yao with a mixture of suspicion and hope, leaving viewers to wonder if Hsiao-tung is truly gone.

The mystery deepens with the character of Yun-chen, also known as Shen Mu, who appears to be closely involved in Jen-yao’s path. One theory suggests she may have orchestrated parts of his killing spree, though her motivations remain unclear. The true identity of the blind woman and her connection to the missing Hsiao-tung will be a central plotline, potentially revealing whether Jen-yao’s first love is still alive.
Jen-yao’s Path of Vengeance
Part 1 showed the events that hardened Li Jen-yao’s heart, including a devastating act of violence committed against Hsiao-tung by her classmates, led by Ouyang Ti. After being imprisoned for attacking Ouyang Ti, Jen-yao was released in 2014. Part 2 will depict his subsequent transformation into the serial killer known as the Rainstorm Killer.
The preview for Part 2 confirms that Jen-yao will embark on a journey of vengeance, targeting his ten victims. These include Ouyang Ti and his gang, who were responsible for Hsiao-tung’s assault, as well as a classmate named Chan En-ya, who was complicit in the abuse. The show will likely explore the eight-month period after his release in 2014 when he began working a construction job, leading up to the murders that eventually led to his arrest. According to Officer Lao, a character interviewed in the 2023 timeline, Jen-yao’s first murder was sloppy and impulsive, but his subsequent crimes grew more cold-blooded and meticulous, indicating a steep descent into violence.
The Documentary’s Dangerous Investigation
In the 2023 timeline, the documentary film crew, led by Chou Pin-yu and Ta-wei, will continue their investigation into Jen-yao’s crimes. Their project has secured conditional funding from an unexpected and dangerous source: Ouyang Ti’s mother. She has agreed to finance the documentary on the condition that the crew discovers why Jen-yao murdered her son.
Ta-wei is going to blackmail Jen-yao into complying with the documentary by using the footage he found of what happened to Hsiao-Tung.
This blackmail could force Jen-yao to finally reveal the truths he has long concealed. Meanwhile, Pin-yu continues to be haunted by troubling visions of a schoolgirl in uniform, who is believed to be Hsiao-tung. These experiences suggest a supernatural connection or that Pin-yu herself is somehow linked to the past tragedy. Her investigation will likely uncover the deep web of trauma connecting her, Jen-yao, and the missing Hsiao-tung.

Character Motivations and Hidden Pasts
Part 2 will also shed light on the supporting characters’ hidden depths. Ta-wei, who has often seemed callous and single-minded in his pursuit of the story, is shown to have a personal tragedy in his past. He experiences a flashback to someone he loved who died by suicide, which may explain his driven nature and personal investment in uncovering the truth about Hsiao-tung’s disappearance.
Furthermore, the series will explore why Jen-yao, despite confessing to all his crimes, never disclosed his motive. Officer Lao noted that Jen-yao was strikingly honest about the details of his killings but acted as though he was trying to conceal a significant secret. This secret is likely the key to the entire story, potentially involving the full truth about what happened to Hsiao-tung and the exact nature of their promise to one another. The show uses powerful symbolism, such as black moths around Jen-yao and white ones around Hsiao-tung, to illustrate their relationshipโthe moth drawn to the sun, a light it can never truly reach.
The upcoming part promises to unravel the hidden truths behind Li Jen-yao’s actions and the mystery surrounding Hsiao-tung’s fate. With its blend of psychological thriller elements and a tragic love story, Part 2 is expected to deliver a harsh, bloody, and emotionally charged conclusion to this intricate narrative.
