The final season of the popular Australian teen drama arrived on Netflix on March 25, 2026, bringing the story of Hartley High’s SLTs to a close. The eight-episode farewell follows Amerie Wadia (Ayesha Madon) and her friends through their final term of high school, where a simple revenge prank spirals into a situation that puts their entire futures at risk.

The third season picks up after the fire that destroyed Hartley High. Students are temporarily relocated to the private school St Bruno’s, which creates tension between the two schools. This rivalry sets the stage for the disaster that threatens to derail everyone’s graduation plans.

The Carnival Prank That Changed Everything

The trouble begins during Senior Muck-up Day when students from St Bruno’s crash the celebration and steal the head of Hartley’s mascot costume. Principal Woodsy (Rachel House) forbids any revenge, but Amerie cannot let the insult go. She impulsively steals a saint’s bust from St Bruno’s and gets her friends to help hide it at the local carnival.

The plan seems simple. The group will wait until the carnival closes, then hang the bust high on a ride where nobody will find it. But things go wrong when carnival owner Clancy (Jono Watts) catches them. During the chaos, Malakai (Thomas Weatherall) climbs onto the ride, and it suddenly starts up. The accident leaves Malakai with a dislocated shoulder and Clancy in a coma.

The students escape before police arrive, but they know they are in serious trouble. They tell themselves they are not directly responsible since none of them started the ride. But the question hangs over the entire season: who turned it on?

Darren and Ca$h Face Tough Relationship Decisions

Throughout the season, Darren Rivers (James Majoos) and Ca$h Piggott (Will McDonald) deal with challenges that test their relationship. The couple has been together since earlier seasons, but their different needs have always been a point of tension.

Darren pursues acting dreams while Ca$h struggles with his role as the supportive partner. Their relationship requires constant communication and understanding. The show does not give them an easy path, showing that real relationships take work.

One of the biggest moments for the couple comes when Ca$h must decide how much he is willing to sacrifice for Darren’s ambitions. Their storyline shows a couple who genuinely care for each other but must figure out if love is enough to overcome their differences. By the end, they prove that they are committed to making things work, though the show leaves room to see how their journey continues beyond high school.

Who Really Turned On the Carnival Ride?

The mystery of the ride takes several turns before the truth comes out. First, suspicion falls on Liam, Clancy’s stepson. Amerie recognizes a bunny mask from dashcam footage showing someone fleeing the carnival. Since Liam wore that mask earlier, he becomes the prime suspect and gets arrested.

But the real culprit is someone much closer to the group. Sasha (Gemma Chua-Tran) was also at the carnival that night, hiding in the control booth. She activated the ride not to hurt anyone but out of anger. Sasha discovered that Amerie and the others created a group chat to exclude her from their plans. Feeling hurt and left out, she wanted to sabotage their prank.

Sasha did not mean for anyone to get hurt. But her actions put Clancy in a coma and almost cost her friends their futures. When the truth comes out during the Schoolies trip, Sasha takes responsibility. She turns herself in to police and faces the consequences, appearing at the end of the series doing community service.

The dashcam footage from Sebastian’s car clears Amerie and her friends. It shows Noah (Ioane Sa’ula) and Seb never entered the carnival grounds. More importantly, it captures the masked figure running away, leading authorities to the real culprit.

Amerie and Malakai’s Love Story Finds Its Ending

The unresolved feelings between Amerie and Malakai have been a central part of the show since the beginning. In season two, Malakai moved to Geneva with his family and left a letter for Amerie confessing his love. But the letter burned in the school fire, and she never knew it existed.

Season three brings Malakai back to Sydney, and he finally tells Amerie what he wrote. The letter revealed his true feelings:

“Thank you for being my first love. Sometimes I think we just met each other at the wrong time. Maybe it would have been better if we met at 30 or 60 or even 80 in a nursing home. I guess s**t is sometimes all about timing.”

The confession comes at a complicated time. Amerie has been dating Noah, a St Bruno’s student, for months. She tells Malakai that he is too late and stays with Noah. But her relationship with Noah eventually ends after he disagrees with her choices during the carnival investigation.

By the finale, Amerie decides to go on a road trip with Harper to figure out what she wants from life. As she leaves town, Malakai chases her down to say goodbye properly this time. The moment makes Amerie realize that sometimes second chances are worth taking. She gets out of the car, and the two share a kiss, deciding to figure out their future together.

How the Group’s Expulsion Gets Reversed

When Principal Woodsy learns the truth about the carnival, she has no choice but to expel everyone involved. The students face losing their senior year and their chance to graduate. Their futures seem destroyed.

But Amerie does not give up. She pushes Noah and Seb to prove they were not involved, which leads to the dashcam footage that clears the group. When Amerie presents this evidence, the authorities drop the charges and reverse the expulsion.

The group returns just in time to take their final exams and graduate with the rest of their class. The ending shows each character moving forward:

  • Spider (Bryn Chapman Parish) becomes a coach for young students
  • Missy (Sherry-Lee Watson) gets into college sports
  • Quinni (Chloé Hayden) pursues writing
  • Darren follows acting dreams
  • Ant (Brodie Townsend) becomes a plumber, going against his mother’s wishes for him to be a carpenter
  • Harper focuses on becoming a visual artist

Heartbreak High Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix. The series gives fans a proper goodbye to the characters they have followed through three seasons of drama, romance, and chaos at Hartley High.
