The new Netflix series His & Hers brings a popular thriller novel to life with a major cast. The show is a psychological thriller about a murder that pulls a reclusive news anchor back to her hometown, where her detective husband is leading the investigation. Everyone has a secret, and someone is definitely lying. The limited series will be available on January 8, 2026. This guide breaks down the large cast and explains who plays whom in this tangled mystery.

The Main Duo: A Marriage at the Center of a Murder

The story of His & Hers revolves around the fractured relationship between Anna Andrews and Jack Harper. Their personal and professional lives collide over a shocking crime.

  • Tessa Thompson as Anna Andrews: Thompson plays Anna, a once-successful news anchor for WSK TV News who has become a recluse, fading from her career and friends. When she hears about a murder in her hometown of Dahlonega, Georgia, she is “snapped back to life” and returns to investigate. Thompson is also an executive producer on the series. In a statement, she said she was “hooked” after talking with the director about his vision for adapting the book.
  • Jon Bernthal as Detective Jack Harper: Bernthal plays Jack, a detective who has returned to work at the sheriff’s office in his hometown of Dahlonega after losing his previous job. He is married to Anna, but they are estranged, their relationship damaged by loss and betrayal. Jack is described as a good man who doesn’t always make good choices, and he grows deeply suspicious of Anna’s sudden interest in his murder case.

“There are two sides to every story. Ours and theirs. Yours and mine. His and hers. Which means someone is always lying,” says Anna in the series trailer.

The Newsroom and the Investigation

Anna’s return to journalism and Jack’s police work introduce a network of colleagues, each with their own ambitions and motives.

At WSK TV News:

  • Pablo Schreiber as Richard: One of the best camerapeople at the station and the husband of the new anchor, Lexy. Anna chooses him to be her cameraperson when she returns to field reporting.
  • Rebecca Rittenhouse as Lexy Jones: A smart, ambitious journalist who took over the main anchor position during Anna’s absence. She is “delighted” to see Anna back but has no intention of giving up the coveted role.
  • Mike Pniewski as Jim Pruss: The general manager of WSK News, who is fond of Anna but must prioritize the new anchor, Lexy.

At the Dahlonega Sheriff’s Office:

  • Sunita Mani as Priya: Jack’s new partner at the sheriff’s office. She is earnestly efficient, eager to please, and fascinated by murder. Her sharp quirkiness is both endearing and annoying to Jack.
  • Dave Maldonado as the Sheriff: A Southern, no-nonsense sheriff determined to keep the status quo and glad to have Jack on the case.

Family, Friends, and Suspects in Dahlonega

The murder investigation pulls Anna and Jack back into the complicated web of their hometown relationships, where past and present secrets are tightly woven.

Family Ties:

  • Crystal Fox as Alice: Anna’s mother, a strong woman who says what she thinks and still lives in her Dahlonega home. Her health is declining, and Jack has been watching over her.
  • Marin Ireland as Zoe: Jack’s sharp-tongued sister, who lets him stay at her home with her young daughter, Meg.
  • Ellie Rose Sawyer as Meg: Zoe’s playful and wise young daughter, who adores her Uncle Jack.

People from the Past:

  • Jamie Tisdale as Rachel: A former friend of Anna’s from their school days at St. Hilaryโ€™s Academy. Her life in Dahlonega is “not at all what it seems”.
  • Poppy Liu as Helen Wang: The headmistress of St. Hilaryโ€™s Academy. A good friend of the murder victim, she becomes increasingly irritated by Anna’s reporting.
  • Chris Bauer as Clyde Duffie: Rachel’s husband, a wealthy pizza chain mogul who becomes a person of interest for Jack.

The series also features actors playing the younger versions of Anna and her friends in flashback scenes, including Kristen Maxwell as Teen Anna, Isabelle Kusman as Teen Rachel, Leah Merritt as Teen Zoe, and Tiffany Ho as Teen Helen.

Behind the Scenes of the Thriller

His & Hers is based on the bestselling 2020 novel of the same name by Alice Feeney. The series was developed for television by filmmaker William Oldroyd, who also directed the first episode. Dee Johnson serves as the showrunner.

The project has major producers behind it. Academy Award-winning actor Jessica Chastain is an executive producer through her company, Freckle Films. She, along with Kristen Campo, initially acquired the television rights to the book in 2020.

Filming for the six-episode series took place in and around Atlanta, Georgia, beginning in late September 2024. The production utilized the area to create the atmosphere of the fictional small town of Dahlonega.

The official trailer, released in December 2025, sets a tense and mysterious tone, highlighting the broken trust between Anna and Jack as they circle the same murder case.
