The award-winning spy series Tehran is returning with major news. The show’s third season finally has a release date, and it will introduce a famous new face to its tense world of espionage. Hugh Laurie, best known globally for his role as Dr. Gregory House, is joining the cast for the new season. In a strong vote of confidence, Apple TV has also announced that the series has been renewed for a fourth season, which is already in production.
The New Season’s Story and Cast
Season three of Tehran picks up with Mossad hacker-agent Tamar Rabinyan, played by Niv Sultan, in a very difficult position. After going rogue at the end of the last season and losing her closest allies, she is now being hunted by both the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and her own agency. To survive, she must find a way to win back the trust of the Mossad.
This is where Hugh Laurie’s character enters the story. Laurie will play Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear inspector. Eric is convinced that Iran is secretly building a nuclear weapon, and he uses his position to plant surveillance equipment inside Iran’s nuclear facilities. His actions set off a dangerous chain of events that will intertwine with Tamar’s mission for survival.
The series follows Tamar, a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity. After going rogue at the end of season two and reeling from the loss of her closest allies, in season three, Tamar must find a way to reinvent herself and win back the Mossad’s support if she is to survive.
Laurie will star alongside returning cast members Shaun Toub and Shila Ommi. The new season also adds new actors to the mix, including Sasson Gabai, Phoenix Raei, and Bahar Pars.
Release Schedule and Early Renewal
Fans will not have to wait much longer for the new season. Tehran Season 3 will debut globally on Apple TV on January 9, 2026. The season will consist of eight episodes. The first episode arrives on that date, with new episodes released every Friday. The season finale is scheduled for February 27, 2026.
The announcement of a Season 4 renewal came alongside the season three premiere news. This early renewal is a significant sign of the streaming service’s strong belief in the series’ continued success. Production on the fourth season is already underway.
Hugh Laurie’s Notable Career
Hugh Laurie is one of the most recognized British actors in the world.
