The first two episodes of the gripping medical thriller Hyper Knife, featuring Park Eun Bin and Sol Kyung Gu, have premiered, immediately drawing viewers into a world of suspense and dark secrets. The initial episodes explore the troubled history of neurosurgeon Jung Se Ok (Park Eun Bin) and her former mentor, Choi Deok Hee (Sol Kyung Gu), revealing the shocking events that led to Jung Se Ok‘s ban from performing surgeries.
The drama centers around Jung Se Ok, a once-promising neurosurgeon who lost her medical license but continues to pursue her passion for neuroscience through unconventional means. Choi Deok Hee, a renowned neurosurgeon, once saw great potential in Jung Se Ok and mentored her. However, their relationship soured due to Jung Se Ok‘s increasingly erratic behavior.
Episode 1: A Ban and a Shocking Act
Episode 1 begins with Choi Deok Hee forbidding Jung Se Ok from the operating room. Driven by an urgent situation, Jung Se Ok disregards the ban and secretly returns to perform surgery. Upon discovering her presence, Choi Deok Hee forcefully removes her. In a moment of intense anger, Jung Se Ok grabs an IV tube and strangles Choi Deok Hee after he slaps her while trying to stop her. This dramatic turn of events sets a tense and dark tone for the series.
A year later, Choi Deok Hee seeks out Jung Se Ok in Paju, revealing his diagnosis of brainstem glioma. He insists that she must be the one to perform the critical surgery. When Jung Se Ok refuses, Choi Deok Hee threatens to expose her illegal surgical activities, reminding her of past encounters with the police.
The episode also shows a police visit to Choi Deok Hee, informing him about an illegal surgery being performed by a surgeon he recognizes as Jung Se Ok. He feigns ignorance but is clearly aware of her actions. Meanwhile, Jung Se Ok, along with her junior Se Yeong Joo (Yoo Chan Young) and Dr. Han Hyun Ho (Park Byung Eun), is shown performing surgery on a gangster.
During this illegal operation, Jung Se Ok learns that the assisting nurses were terminated from their previous jobs for serious misconduct, including malpractice, assault, and drugging patients. These nurses attempt to extort a higher payment from Jung Se Ok, to which she reluctantly agrees.
Episode 2: Unraveling the Past and a Deadly Present
Episode 2 delves deeper into the past relationship between Jung Se Ok and Choi Deok Hee. During her initial days at Yeonshin University, Choi Deok Hee advised Jung Se Ok to be cautious. Jung Se Ok, fascinated by neuroscience and surgery, sought out Choi Deok Hee and became his dedicated student, quickly becoming his favorite.
However, their dynamic shifted when Choi Deok Hee asked Dr. Han Hyun Ho to have Jung Se Ok perform a surgery, a request that Han Hyun Ho could not fulfill due to Jung Se Ok‘s volatile temper. Frustrated by her inability to control her anger and the situation, Jung Se Ok burned all her research papers and medical notes compiled under Choi Deok Hee‘s guidance.
Further flashbacks reveal that Choi Deok Hee had initially intended to offer Jung Se Ok an opportunity for further studies but ultimately chose another student, Ha U Yeong, instead. This perceived betrayal leads to a confrontation in Choi Deok Hee‘s office, where Jung Se Ok accuses him of being unfair. The situation escalates when Jung Se Ok also criticizes Ha U Yeong‘s mother, who is present in the room. In a fit of anger, Choi Deok Hee slaps Jung Se Ok, resulting in her permanent ban from operating rooms.
In the present timeline, Jung Se Ok is visibly frustrated with her life. She appears calmer but harbors deep resentment. She notices that she is being stalked by Kwon Shi Gu (Lee Tae Young), an ex-convict with a history of violence, who constantly watches her and makes unwanted advances.
Reaching her breaking point, Jung Se Ok invites Kwon Shi Gu to her house and ultimately kills him. The episode concludes with Jung Se Ok enlisting Se Yeong Joo‘s help to clean up the crime scene and dispose of the body. While burying the body, Jung Se Ok is shocked to discover Choi Deok Hee witnessing her actions. This cliffhanger leaves viewers with numerous questions about the future of their complex and dangerous relationship.
The unfolding events in Hyper Knife raise several questions: Will Choi Deok Hee use this knowledge against Jung Se Ok? What will Jung Se Ok‘s next steps be? Will this murder lead to further criminal acts? How will this situation impact her future, and will she ever return to neurosurgery, or will she face legal consequences for her actions?
With its intricate plot and unexpected twists, Hyper Knife has quickly become a must-watch series. Episodes 3 and 4 are scheduled to be released on March 26, 2025, at 12:30 PM (KST), airing every Wednesday. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how the suspenseful story will continue to develop.
