The HBO comedy series I Love LA is officially coming back for more. HBO confirmed the renewal of the show on November 20, 2025, before the first season had even finished airing. The network stated the series is “among the fastest growing original comedies” and is HBO’s second top freshman comedy in its history, pulling in nearly 2 million viewers across platforms in the U.S.. This early renewal means fans of Maia and her chaotic friend group can look forward to new episodes.
The news of a second season was not a surprise to many industry watchers. HBO made the announcement during a press event in New York City to highlight its upcoming 2026 programming. Amy Gravitt, HBOโs Executive Vice President of Programming, praised the show. She grouped it with another renewed comedy, The Chair Company, saying both shows “confidently carry on the HBO comedy tradition, in their own singular way”.
This early vote of confidence from the network, coming a full month before the Season 1 finale aired on December 21, 2025, signals strong internal belief in the show’s performance and creative direction.
There is no official premiere date for Season 2 yet. However, looking at the production timeline for the first season gives clues about when new episodes might arrive. Casting news for Season 1, including Josh Hutcherson joining the cast, came in May 2025. The season then premiered in November 2025.
If the team follows a similar schedule, writing and filming for the new season could begin in the spring of 2026. This could potentially lead to a premiere in the fall of 2026. Fans can expect the new season to consist of another eight-episode run, matching the length of the first season.
While HBO has not released an official cast list, the way Season 1 ended strongly suggests the core group of friends will be back. These characters and the actors who play them are central to the show’s story:
The fate of other characters hinges on the Season 1 finale’s cliffhangers. Josh Hutcherson is expected to return as Dylan, Maia’s boyfriend, as their relationship was left on a complicated “break”. This also means Callie Hernandez could reappear as Claire, Dylan’s coworker. Moses Ingram may return as Tessa, Tallulah’s girlfriend.
Leighton Meester’s character, Maia’s boss Alyssa, fired Maia. She might appear in a guest role but likely won’t have a major story arc. Other potential returning faces include Colin Woodell as Maia’s former boss Ben, who offered her a controversial job, and Keith David as Alani’s father. Fans are also hopeful for more guest spots from stars like Ayo Edebiri, who played pop star Mimi Rush.
Season 1 ended with many storylines up in the air, setting the stage for major drama in the next season. The finale, titled “I Love NY,” saw the friend group split between Los Angeles and New York for a fashion event. Creator and star Rachel Sennott has shared some thoughts on where the story could go.
“I think there are so many places we can go from here, and I have a lot of ideas,” Sennott told Deadline. “Iโm excited to get into the writer’s roomโฆ because I think we teed ourselves up for a lot of action, but we can go in different directions with it”.
A central conflict will be the fallout between Maia and Dylan. They agreed to take a break from their relationship, and both ended up being with other people during that time. Dylan slept with his coworker Claire, while Maia got involved with an industry colleague. The show will likely explore if they can move past this betrayal.
“Neither of them [is] necessarily the bad guy because they were on a break,” Sennott explained, adding that she wanted to avoid turning either character into a simple villain.
Professionally, Maia is starting from scratch. She turned down a high-paying job from her ex-boss Ben because it came with uncomfortable strings attached. Season 2 will follow her attempt to build her own management career with Tallulah as her only client, testing the limits of their friendship and business partnership.

The show may also explore more of Los Angeles and New York’s specific social scenes. Fan suggestions for future settings include places like the private magician’s club The Magic Castle, the trendy wine bar Cafรฉ Tondo, or even yoga classes at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
For viewers who want to catch up or rewatch the first season, I Love LA is available to stream on Max. All eight episodes of Season 1 are on the platform. The show follows a group of friends in their late twenties as they navigate ambition, changing relationships, and life in Los Angeles. As Sennott herself has described it, the show aims to be an “Entourage for internet It girls,” focusing on the business of online influence rather than traditional Hollywood.
