Episode 5 of the K-drama “Idol I” brought major twists as Se Na was hurt in a car crash and a key character’s alibi completely fell apart. The episode featured character growth, secret truths, and a surprising arrest.
The story focused on two main events. The accident brought lawyer Maeng Se Na and idol star Ra-Ik closer together while they were dealing with an investigation. At the same time, prosecutor Kwak Byung-gyun found proof that drummer Jae-hee was not in the hospital on the night of the murder as he had claimed. The episode ended with a powerful test of trust and a surprising guest.
The Car Accident and Its Immediate Aftermath
The episode started where the previous one ended, with Se Na and Ra-Ik’s car crashing on the side of the road. The accident happened during an argument about Prosecutor Kwak Byung-gyun. A tire burst, causing Se Na to lose control of the vehicle. Thankfully, Ra-Ik was not seriously hurt, but Se Na suffered a fractured arm from the impact.
The scene moved to the hospital, where Se Na’s senior, Park Chung-jae, came to check on her. Ra-Ik told him about her injury. When Ra-Ik went to find a doctor, he saw reporters gathering, drawn by his celebrity status. To avoid them, Se Na decided to leave the hospital with Ra-Ik.
“Se Na tells Chung-jae to investigate who is behind the car accident and leaves the hospital with Ra-Ik not to come across the reporters.”
Ra-Ik and Se Na’s Growing Bond
Outside the hospital, Ra-Ik began taking care of Se Na, which led to several meaningful moments. He helped her walk and even put his hand up to protect her from a sudden jerk in a taxi. Their conversations became more personal. Ra-Ik asked Se Na about the nickname “stinky Se Na,” which Byung-gyun had used, and she explained it was just a playful name based on her name.
A turning point came when Ra-Ik saw milk and peanut butter packages in Se Na’s kitchen that had his face on them as promotional material. This led him to share his feelings.
“Ra-Ik tells her that he is ultimately a product that the brand uses to sell its items.”
He opened up about feeling unloved for who he truly is, saying that even with many fans, people only love his idol persona from the Gold Boys band and not the real him. He mentioned that only one person, hinting at the late Woo Seong, had ever truly understood him. Se Na listened but did not reveal that she is his devoted fan.
Byung-gyun Discovers Jae-hee’s Lie
While the relationship developed, the murder case saw a major breakthrough. Prosecutor Kwak Byung-gyun was under pressure to find evidence against Ra-Ik. He returned to his office to check for updates with an investigator.
The investigator had crucial new information. Security camera footage from the hospital proved that Jae-hee was not in his hospital room on the night bandmate Woo Seong was killed. When Byung-gyun confronted Jae-hee with this evidence, Jae-hee first shouted and insisted he was hospitalized because Ra-Ik beat him. However, his lie collapsed as soon as he was shown the CCTV video of him leaving the hospital. This discovery shattered Jae-hee’s alibi and made him a new person of interest in the case.
Uncovering the Conspirator and Office Pressure
Back with Se Na and Ra-Ik, Park Chung-jae shared his findings about the car crash. He told Se Na the accident was planned and suggested Ra-Ik could be behind it since he would benefit from it. Se Na, trusting Ra-Ik, defended him strongly. Ra-Ik, who was secretly listening, felt a sense of relief that someone believed in him.
The real culprits were soon caught. They were the two obsessed fans who had previously broken into Ra-Ik’s home. Ra-Ik decided not to press charges against them at the police station, telling them to direct their anger at him and not at innocent people.
Professional trouble then found Se Na. After leaving the police station, she got a call from her law office. Her boss, Attorney Hwang, ordered her to drop Ra-Ik’s case. The reason was a conflict of interest. Since their firm represents Goldie Entertainment, they cannot legally work for both Ra-Ik and Jae-hee now that Jae-hee has made a statement. Se Na, refusing to give up, informed Ra-Ik about an upcoming face-to-face interrogation with Jae-hee.
Preparing for the Confrontation and a Test of Truth
To prepare for the interrogation, Se Na and Ra-Ik went to see fellow bandmate Young-bin for information. Young-bin recalled that on the night of the murder, he and Jae-hee were in the hospital together when news leaked about an argument between Jae-hee and Ra-Ik. Jae-hee received harsh criticism from Ra-Ik’s fans online, which upset him. Young-bin fell asleep, and when he woke up, Jae-hee was gone from his bed. Soon after, news of Woo Seong’s murder broke.
Ra-Ik explained to Se Na that his relationship with Jae-hee deteriorated after fan criticism. He admitted that he acted immaturely, once removing Jae-hee’s drum part from a song and telling him to leave the band if he could not do better.
Se Na then took Ra-Ik to a special placeโa “tickle tree” from her childhood. Her father had told her the tree’s branches would shake if someone told a lie. She jokingly said she did not trust him, and the tree shook, proving she was lying and did trust him. Ra-Ik then quietly told the tree, “I didn’t kill Woo Seong.” The tree remained still, indicating he was telling the truth, which gave him great relief.

A New Complication Arrives
Just as a moment of understanding passed between Se Na and Ra-Ik, they were interrupted. Hong Hye-joo, the woman Ra-Ik met on the night of the murder, showed up at Se Na’s house looking for him. She asked him to leave with her.
“Ra-Ik holds Se Na’s hand and tells Hye-joo to leave, saying that this is where he belongs.”
This clear choice by Ra-Ik, holding Se Na’s hand and refusing to go with Hye-joo, marked a significant shift in his loyalties and closed the episode on a note of new tension. Idol I Episode 5 is available for streaming globally on Netflix and Rakuten Viki.
