Reports from South Korean media outlet OSEN, dated January 8, 2025, indicate that the production team behind Wife of a 21st Century Prince is planning to release the series towards the end of 2025. The K-drama is slated to air on the broadcasting network MBC, with the aim of concluding the year with a significant finale.
Kakao Entertainment, the co-producer, also confirmed that the director for the project has not yet been finalized. Once the director is confirmed, the production team will focus on completing the supporting cast, conducting script readings, and beginning filming. The plan to broadcast on MBC by the end of the year remains the primary goal.

Storyline and Characters
The romantic drama is set in an alternate Korea that operates as a constitutional monarchy. The story will follow the love story of Sung Hee Joo, a wealthy heiress who lacks noble status, and Lee Ahn, a prince who has royal lineage but lacks financial resources or real power.
IU will portray Sung Hee Joo, the intelligent and ambitious second daughter of Korea’s largest conglomerate family. She possesses beauty, intelligence, and a competitive nature, and has always lived a privileged life. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when her commoner status creates problems, leading her to meet Prince Lee Ahn.
Byeon Woo Seok will play Lee Ahn, the second son of the king, whose royal status is his only significant advantage. He has spent his life keeping his true identity hidden. Lee Ahn’s world changes dramatically after he meets Sung Hee Joo.
