Jung Ho-seok, known worldwide as J-Hope of the K-pop group BTS, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Korean male solo artist to appear on the cover of Billboard magazine. This feature is part of the magazine’s May issue, highlighting his growing presence and influence as a solo musician.

Billboard recognized J-Hope as a standout member of BTS, noting his impactful stage presence and dancing skills that have been central to the group’s global rise. His appearance on the cover follows PSY, who was the first Korean male artist to be featured on Billboard’s cover in 2012. BTS as a group has also graced the cover twice before, in 2018 and August 2021.

J-Hope shared his thoughts in the cover story about his solo journey. He explained that he hopes his work can inspire others, similar to how he was inspired by artists he admired when he was younger. He expressed a desire to continue creating music that spreads positive energy and light.

His solo career gained significant momentum with the release of his debut studio album, “Jack in the Box,” on July 15, 2022. The album explored themes such as anxiety about an uncertain future and the importance of empathy. Following this, he also released the album “Hope on the Street Vol. 1” on March 29, 2024.

His tour also included shows at Saitama Super Arena in Japan from April 19 to 21, which led to special editions of major Japanese newspapers covering his concerts.

A notable moment in his solo journey was his headlining performance at Lollapalooza 2022 in Chicago, making him the first South Korean artist to lead a major U.S. festival. He performed a setlist that included tracks from “Jack in the Box” and older solo material. He also had a live performance of “Chicken Noodle Soup” with Becky G.

Musical Journey and Impact

J-Hope’s recent singles, “Mona Lisa” and “Sweet Dreams” (a collaboration with Miguel), both charted on the Billboard Hot 100. He mentioned that these songs are easy to connect with and offer a look into his evolving musical world. He also shared that he plans to continue experimenting with music.

He has been deeply involved in every aspect of his solo projects, from stage design and choreography to costumes and props for his “Hope on the Stage” tour. This hands-on approach showcases his dedication and individuality as an artist.

He also looked forward to BTS reuniting, curious to see how their individual growth will shape their group dynamic.

J-Hope’s solo world tour, “Hope on the Stage,” began on February 28 at Kspo Dome in Seoul. It continues with two shows in Taipei, Taiwan on May 24-25, and is scheduled to conclude on June 13-14 at Goyang Sports Complex Stadium in Korea.
