Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake have been married for over 12 years, and the actress recently opened up about what keeps their relationship strong. She says mutual understanding and support for each other’s careers play a big role in their lasting marriage.
Biel explained that marrying someone who also works in the entertainment industry has helped them stay connected. Both have busy schedules, but they make it work by supporting each other’s long work hours.
“I think having a partner who understands this industry and adjacent industries like the music industry has been really deeply important and profound for my life and for our partnership,” Biel told InStyle. “He just understands when I’m working crazy long hours, and I understand that for him, too.”
The couple, who married in 2012, have two sons—Silas, 10, and Phineas, 4. Biel said they try to balance work and family life by making sure at least one parent is always present for their kids.
“Sometimes we do a good job; we try to have one of us working full time, only one,” she said. “It doesn’t always happen, but we make it work.”
Timberlake, who is currently on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, has also been supportive of Biel’s career. She shared that he encourages her to take risks, even if it means facing failure.
“You gotta risk it for the biscuit,” Biel joked, quoting a phrase she and Timberlake often use. “I don’t even know what it means, like, tangibly, but it’s something we say to each other.”
The family now lives in Big Sky, Montana, away from the Hollywood spotlight. Biel said spending quality time together is a top priority, especially when their work takes them away from home.
“Spending time with the family unit is a huge priority right now because I’ve been gone, Justin’s been gone,” she said. “These moments at this time feel kind of priceless.”
Their marriage hasn’t been without challenges. In 2019, Timberlake faced rumors of infidelity after being photographed holding hands with his Palmer co-star Alisha Wainwright. He later apologized, calling it a “lapse in judgment.”
“A few weeks ago I displayed a strong lapse in judgment—but let me be clear—nothing happened between me and my costar,” Timberlake said. “I should have known better. I apologize to my amazing wife and family.”
More recently, in June 2024, Timberlake was arrested for driving while intoxicated in New York. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and completed community service. Despite these incidents, Biel has stood by him, focusing on their family.
“Jessica and Justin are spending more time together and are happier and more relaxed,” a source told Us Weekly in December 2024. “Jessica is showing patience and compassion while also maintaining firm expectations of him.”
Biel also called Timberlake her “best friend” and one of her “chosen sisters,” highlighting their deep bond. She said their friendship has helped them through tough times.
“All of them together have gotten me through my life,” she said about her support system. “I don’t know how I would have survived life without them.”
Timberlake has also spoken about their strong relationship, calling Biel the “single-handedly most significant person in my life.” He emphasized the importance of protecting their marriage.
The couple’s ability to laugh together has also helped. Biel joked about stealing one of Timberlake’s childhood T-shirts and never returning it because it smelled like him.
“It gave me comfort,” she admitted. The small, personal moments like these have kept their connection strong over the years.
Their advice for other couples? Keep dating each other, even after marriage.
“We might be married, but we have to keep dating,” Biel shared, quoting Timberlake. “You just have to keep making time for each other.”
Despite their busy lives, they continue to prioritize their relationship. Whether it’s supporting each other’s careers or making time for family, their marriage remains strong.
