JTBC has announced plans for a new “Friday Series” drama slot, starting in July. This new schedule will feature popular actors like Lee Dong Wook, Song Joong Ki, and Seo Hyun Jin. Among the upcoming shows is Song Joong Ki and Chun Woo Hee’s drama, “My Youth” (working title), which will be part of this new Friday lineup.
The new “Friday Series” will air every Friday at 8:50 PM KST, with two episodes back-to-back. This new block aims to start the weekend drama viewing, followed by JTBC’s existing Saturday-Sunday dramas. This change means JTBC will have double weekend dramas from Friday to Sunday, providing more entertainment for viewers.
“My Youth” Story and Characters
“My Youth” is a romance drama that tells the story of Sun Woo Hae, played by Song Joong Ki, and Sung Je Yeon, played by Chun Woo Hee. Sun Woo Hae was once a famous child actor but now lives a quiet life as a novelist and florist. He starts living an ordinary life later than most people.
Sung Je Yeon, a team leader at Feel Entertainment, has to change her first love’s peaceful life for her own success. She grew up with wealth but is now focused on rebuilding her life and achieving her goals after her family lost their fortune. The drama shows their reunion after more than ten years. They were once each other’s first loves and helped each other through hard times. Now, they meet again under different situations and start to create new moments together.
The drama “My Youth” is written by Park Si Hyun, who also wrote the JTBC drama “Run On.” The show is directed by Lee Sang Yeop, known for his work on the “Yumi’s Cells” series, “Familiar Wife,” and “Shopaholic Louis.” The production is by HighZium Studio.
Other Dramas in the Friday Series
The new “Friday Series” will also include other dramas. Lee Dong Wook and Lee Sung Kyung will star in the noir drama “The Good Man” (literal title). This drama is about Park Seok Chul, the oldest grandson of a gangster family, who has a kind heart, and his first love, Kang Mi Young, who wants to be a singer.
Another drama in the lineup is “Love Me” (literal title), starring Seo Hyun Jin, Chang Ryul, TWICE’s Dahyun, Yoon Se Ah, and Yoo Jae Myung. This show is a remake of a Swedish television series and talks about a relatable family where each member goes on their own journey of love and personal growth.
Additionally, Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, and Tae Won Suk will appear in “Good Boy.” This comic action drama follows former national athletes who become police officers through a special recruitment program.
JTBC’s Expanded Weekend Lineup
JTBC is expanding its drama offerings to fill the weekend with more content. The “Friday Series” will serve as a strong start to the weekend, leading into the regular Saturday-Sunday dramas. This new schedule aims to give viewers a continuous flow of high-quality dramas throughout the weekend.
The exact premiere dates for “My Youth” and other dramas in the “Friday Series” will be announced as July approaches. Fans are looking forward to seeing these new shows, especially “My Youth” with its blend of romance and drama, featuring the reunion of Song Joong Ki and Chun Woo Hee.
