The wait is almost over for K-drama fans who love stories packed with power, betrayal, and high-stakes drama. A new show is arriving on March 16, and it brings together one of the most exciting casts of the year. Ju Ji Hoon, Ha Ji Won, and Nana are headlining Climax, a series that pulls back the curtain on the dirty secrets of politics, big business, and show business. If you are looking for your next binge-watch, this is the one to mark on your calendar.
After a busy year that saw Ju Ji Hoon dominate screens in The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, he is back with a role that is described as dark, intense, and dangerously ambitious. For Ha Ji Won, this drama is a special return. She has not appeared in a drama in four years, making Climax a major comeback event for the beloved actress. Adding to the firepower is Nana, who takes on a mysterious role filled with secrets, and Oh Jung Se, known as the ultimate scene-stealer, playing a chaebol heir.
A Plot of Raw Desire and Dark Alliances
Climax is not your typical romantic drama. It is a survival story set in the highest echelons of South Korean power. The story centers on Bang Tae Seob (Ju Ji Hoon), a prosecutor from nothing. He has no connections and no money, but he burns with a desperate need to reach the top. To get there, he marries Chu Sang Ah (Ha Ji Won), a former top actress who is terrified of fading into obscurity. Their marriage is not based on love. It is a cold, calculated alliance. Tae Seob uses her fame to open doors, while Sang Ah uses his rising political power to stay relevant. They are partners, but they are also ready to destroy each other if it means getting what they want. The drama follows them as they dive into a dangerous cartel of power players, where one wrong move can end their lives.
“The script felt like giving voice to the desires that everyone carries silently but never dares to speak aloud,” Ju Ji Hoon shared about why he chose the project.
Ju Ji Hoon: The Face of Desire According to the Director
At the recent press conference for the drama, director Lee Ji Won had high praise for her leading man. She revealed that Ju Ji Hoon was the only actor she had in mind when writing the character of Bang Tae Seob.
“He is the face that can best embody desire among currently working actors,” the director stated.
She explained that the script described the character as a Doberman sharp, dangerous, and intense. Ju Ji Hoon fit that image perfectly. She even mentioned that his nickname on set, Joo Black, reflects his intense and cool charisma. This marks the director’s first time writing for television, after her acclaimed film Miss Baek, and she promised that every episode is built to deliver a powerful climax.
Ha Ji Won’s Emotional Return and a 4-Year Hiatus
For Ha Ji Won, taking on the role of Chu Sang Ah was a deeply personal challenge. Playing an actress who is losing her spotlight forced her to look inward. She admitted that playing a celebrity was harder than any other role because she had to completely erase herself and become someone else.
“For the past six or seven years, I’ve been increasingly curious about people and human relationships,” she said at the press conference. “Climax touched on themes that feel relevant to the times we’re living in.”
She also spoke warmly about working with Ju Ji Hoon, noting that he is cool and sincere, which made their intense scenes together flow naturally. The two actors have great chemistry, playing a couple who fight and distrust each other but also share a twisted bond that keeps them tied together.
Nana’s Secretive Role and Real-Life Incident
Nana is generating a lot of buzz for her role as Hwang Jung Won, an informant who works closely with Ju Ji Hoon’s character. She described her character as someone shrouded in mist and was very careful not to reveal any spoilers during the press event, often checking with the director to see what she could say. This drama also marks Nana’s first public appearance since she subdued an intruder who broke into her home late last year. When asked if her action scenes in the drama helped her in that real-life situation, she clarified that it did not.
“Filming action scenes is completely different from reality. No matter how many times you practice action sequences, once you face an emergency situation, it is entirely different,” Nana explained.
She thanked fans for their support, saying their encouragement helped her return to her daily life and work.
Oh Jung Se Steals the Show with a Four-Legged Co-Star
The always reliable Oh Jung Se plays Kwon Jong Wook, the heir to the WR Group who teams up with Tae Seob to take down his stepmother. During the press conference, he was asked who he had the best chemistry with on set. In a funny moment, he pointed to the dog on screen, a Doberman named Petit, saying they worked together best. He even thanked the dog directly into the camera, making everyone laugh.
