The awards recognize their exceptional contributions to Korean drama and entertainment, further solidifying their status in the industry.

K-Expo 2024: Honoring Excellence in Korean Entertainment

The 2024 K-Expo, also known as the 6th Newsis Hallyu Expo, is set to be a major event in Korean entertainment. The expo will be held at the Great Hall of the Chosun Palace in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, beginning at 3 PM on August 22, 2024. This event is particularly significant as it will celebrate the outstanding achievements of several renowned Korean actors and actresses.

  • Kim Soo Hyun will be honored with the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Award for his performance in tvN’s Queen of Tears. This drama has become a major hit, achieving a record-breaking viewership rating. According to Nielsen Korea, the series finale of Queen of Tears reached an average nationwide rating of 24.850 percent, surpassing the previous record of 21.683 percent set by Crash Landing on You in February 2020.
  • Kim Hye Yoon will receive the National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee Chairman’s Award for her role in the K-drama Lovely Runner. Her portrayal of Im Sol, a character who travels through time to save her idol Ryu Sun Jae (played by Byeon Woo Seok), has been praised as one of the most compelling female performances in recent memory. The drama exceeded all expectations, becoming one of the most beloved shows of the year, and the cast was rewarded with a special vacation for their achievements.

More Honorees at the K-Expo 2024

In addition to Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Hye Yoon, several other stars will be recognized at the K-Expo for their contributions to Korean entertainment:

  • Go Min Si will be awarded for her role in the horror and supernatural K-drama Sweet Home, where she starred across all three seasons.
  • Byun Yo Han will be honored with the National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee Chairman’s Award for his role in Disney+’s Uncle Samsik.
  • Chae Jong Hyeop and WJSN’s Bona will receive the Seoul Tourism Foundation CEO Award. Chae Jong Hyeop gained fame through the Japanese drama Eye Love You and has recently solidified his status as a romantic comedy star with Serendipity’s Embrace. Bona delivered a compelling performance as a victim of school violence in Pyramid Game, showcasing her talent and dedication.
  • The Korea Creative Content Agency President’s Award will be presented to Modhaus CEO Jeong Byeong Gi, also known as Jaden Jeong, for his role in planning and producing the 24-member girl group tripleS. Additionally, Big Ocean will receive the Hallyu Special Award for being Korea’s first hearing-impaired group and for their inspiring positive impact.
