The second episode of Landman Season 2, titled “Sins of the Father,” delivered major emotional and dramatic turns. The episode, which premiered on November 23, 2025, on Paramount+, saw Cooper’s life change in an instant with a massive oil strike, only to crumble as his relationship fell apart and a dangerous new business partner entered the picture.
Cooper’s Highs and Lows
Cooper’s string of luck continued as his sixth oil well struck a massive gusher, coating him and his crew in black crude. However, his excitement quickly turned to fear as he confessed to Ariana that his unprecedented success was overwhelming and he felt unprepared for what came next.
The celebration was cut short when Ariana, who had been desperately calling him for hours, dropped a emotional bombshell. She broke up with him, explaining that the panic she felt when he didn’t answer proved her love for him, but also showed her that his dangerous new life was not what she wanted for herself or her son.
“Being rich isn’t my dream. It’s yours,” she told him. By the next morning, she had asked him to move out of her house.
A Shady Business Deal
With no place to go, Cooper turned to his father, Tommy Norris, for help. Tommy quickly discovered that Cooper’s success was funded by a company called Sonrisa, which had financed all six of his wells without requiring any collateral. Tommy was immediately suspicious of the deal, especially since Cooper had signed the contract without having a lawyer review it.
Tommy tried to offer his son some wisdom, telling him that money “ruins more families than it fixes.” He also gave surprising advice about Ariana, suggesting Cooper should “sit her down and give her a good listening to” and try to understand her perspective after the recent loss in her life.
Cami’s Legal Trouble
Meanwhile, Cami Miller was blindsided by a lawsuit. While on a morning jog, she was served legal papers related to a $420 million insurance settlement that her late husband, Monty, had received. The money, meant to fund a new gas well after one was destroyed, had been paid in a single lump sum directly to Monty and was now missing.
Cami and her legal team, including the ruthless lawyer Rebecca, worked to manage the crisis. Rebecca successfully negotiated with the insurance company’s lawyers, getting them to agree to drop the lawsuit if M-Tex began construction on the new well immediately.
Family Trouble and a Heart-to-Heart
The Norris women, Angela and Ainsley, found themselves in handcuffs after a boisterous aerobics class at a retirement home turned into a confrontation with state inspectors. When one of the agents put his hands on Angela, she fought back, leading to both women being detained. Tommy eventually intervened via FaceTime with the local sheriff to secure their release.
During a drive, Tommy opened up to Cooper about his own traumatic childhood. He revealed that his father, T.L. Norris, was an alcoholic who was physically abusive, and his mother was often “coked-out.” He explained that he avoided being a full-time father to Cooper because he didn’t want to continue the cycle of abuse.
Cooper offered his father unexpected kindness, saying, “I love you, Dad. You did your best, and your best is good enough for me,” a moment that left Tommy visibly moved.

A Dangerous Reveal
The episode ended with a major cliffhanger. Nate’s investigation into Sonrisa revealed the true identity of Cooper’s financial backer: Gallino, the Mexican kingpin who had violently confronted Tommy at the end of Season 1.
Tommy delivered the grim news to his son, telling him that his new business partner is “a real problem.” The reveal sets the stage for a major conflict, as Gallino now has influence over Cooper’s successful wells and, by extension, leverage over Tommy.
