Lee Jae Wook is challenging himself with his first dual role in the upcoming KBS2 drama “Last Summer,” where he plays twin brothers with opposite personalities. The actor recently shared his thoughts on this new challenge and what drew him to the project, which is set to premiere in November 2025.

Lee Jae Wook’s Reason for Choosing “Last Summer”

Lee Jae Wook revealed that the script for “Last Summer” immediately captured his interest. He explained that the story provided a sense of emotional comfort that resonated with him personally.

“As I read the script, I felt emotionally healed and surrounded by warmth. I wanted to portray those emotions through my character,” Lee Jae Wook shared.

The drama follows the story of childhood friends Baek Do Ha and Song Ha Kyung, played by Choi Sung Eun, whose relationship undergoes significant changes after a pivotal incident two years earlier. Lee Jae Wook described his character Baek Do Ha as “optimistic, bright, and determinedโ€”someone who always pursues and achieves what he sets his mind to.”

Understanding the Twin Brothers’ Characters

Lee Jae Wook will portray both Baek Do Ha and his twin brother Baek Do Young in the drama. The brothers have lived apart since their parents’ divorce, with Do Ha growing up in the United States and Do Young remaining in South Korea. According to the plot, Do Ha visits Korea every summer for 21 days, staying in a duplex house with his father and brother.

The actor discussed his approach to playing these two distinct characters, noting that he focused on highlighting their contrasting personalities. He selected “initiative,” “drive,” and “delicacy” as the key words that best capture Baek Do Ha’s character.

“I reflected a lot on my own and discussed it extensively with the director. I approached the two characters by highlighting the differences between Do Ha’s optimism and Do Young’s idealism,” Lee Jae Wook commented.

The Story and Setting of “Last Summer”

“Last Summer” is described as a romance drama that centers on childhood friends uncovering the long-buried truth about their first love. Baek Do Ha works as a gifted architect and head of Pluto Atelier, while Choi Sung Eun’s character Song Ha Kyung is a government official in the architecture division who has dreamed of leaving her hometown of Patan.

Despite sharing a 17-year friendship, a fateful incident two years ago drove Do Ha and Ha Kyung apart. The story picks up as Do Ha returns to Patan for unknown reasons, where their paths cross again. The drama will explore the process of these two characters gradually reopening to each other and addressing unresolved feelings from their past.
