Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae has shared intriguing behind-the-scenes moments about one of the most intense scenes in the series. As fans eagerly await Squid Game Season 2, Lee Jung Jae’s revelations about his experience during filming have sparked even more excitement for the upcoming season.

The Ddakji Scene: Gong Yoo’s Intense Slap

In a new interview clip released by Netflix on October 10, 2024, Lee Jung Jae opened up about the iconic ddakji scene from Season 1, where his character, Seong Gi Hun, attempts to win money by playing a traditional Korean game with the mysterious recruiter, portrayed by Gong Yoo. During this scene, if Gi Hun loses, he gets slapped.

Lee Jung Jae revealed that he insisted on making the slap look as real as possible. He asked Gong Yoo to actually slap him to match the director’s vision for authenticity. As a result, Lee Jung Jae endured multiple real slaps, which added to the believability of the scene. The actor explained that these slaps helped him stay in character, making the tension between the two characters feel much more genuine.

Regarding his co-star’s skills, Lee Jung Jae humorously admitted that Gong Yoo was quite good at playing ddakji, which made it even harder for him during the scene. Gong Yoo’s skills in flipping the ddakji tiles left him genuinely impressed.

Behind-the-Scenes Direction

The interview revealed that the director wanted Lee Jung Jae to showcase the excitement and celebration of a soccer player after scoring a goal once he won the ddakji game against Gong Yoo’s character. This specific direction added a unique energy to the scene and heightened its intensity.

To fully experience the storyline, Lee Jung Jae encouraged fans to revisit the first season of Squid Game before Season 2’s release.
