Lee Min Ho recently shared his experience filming the upcoming movie Omniscient Reader: The Prophet, revealing he felt lonely while playing his character Yoo Joong Hyuk. The actor admitted he didn’t fully understand his character’s relationship with BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, who plays Lee Ji Hye in the film.

The movie, based on the popular web novel Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, brings together a star-studded cast including Ahn Hyo Seop, Chae Soo Bin, and Jisoo. Set to release on July 23, 2025, the film has already sparked excitement among fans.

Lee Min Ho’s Emotional Struggles While Playing Yoo Joong Hyuk

In an interview with The Korea Herald, Lee Min Ho opened up about the challenges of his role. His character, Yoo Joong Hyuk, is a lone fighter who repeatedly faces apocalyptic scenarios. The actor described the emotional weight of the role, saying:

“I’ll be honest, it was lonely and desolate. Most of my scenes involved CGI, and I had to portray a man who survives endless battles alone.”

He also mentioned that he wasn’t fully aware of how his character connected with Jisoo’s Lee Ji Hye in the story.

“I honestly had no idea how we were even connected. The relationships between characters were complex, and sometimes I didn’t know how my role fit into the bigger picture.”

Jisoo’s Casting Sparks Debate Among Fans

BLACKPINK’s Jisoo makes her big-screen debut in Omniscient Reader: The Prophet, but her casting has been met with mixed reactions. Some fans questioned whether she was chosen for her fame rather than her acting experience.

Director Kim Byung Woo defended the decision, explaining that Jisoo’s star power was crucial for her character’s late introduction in the film.

“Jisoo’s character appears quite late in the storyline. We needed someone instantly recognizable so audiences would understand her importance.”

Fans of the original novel were also upset about changes to Jisoo’s character. In the book, Lee Ji Hye fights with a sword, but in the movie, she uses a gun. Many fans expressed disappointment online.

“Ji Hye wields a sword because her sponsor is General Yi Sun Sin. Why would the movie change that?”
“This sucks. The sword has deep meaning in the story.”

High Expectations For The Movie’s Release

Omniscient Reader: The Prophet is one of the most anticipated Korean films of 2025. With a budget of $21 million, the movie promises intense action and a gripping storyline.

The plot follows Kim Dok Ja (Ahn Hyo Seop), the only reader of a web novel that suddenly becomes reality. He teams up with Yoo Joong Hyuk (Lee Min Ho) to survive a collapsing world.

Fans are eager to see how the film adapts the beloved novel, despite some changes. The movie will premiere in 113 countries, making it a global event.
