Football fans around the world got a surprise when Lego released a new advertisement featuring Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius Jr. all in one room. The Danish toy company dropped the commercial on April 2, 2026, and social media exploded within hours.
The video shows the four football stars sitting around a rotating table, each trying to place their own Lego minifigure on a brick-built World Cup trophy. It is playful and competitive, capturing the spirit of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. Lego captioned the post with “Everyone wants a piece” and added the hashtag #HonestlyItsNotAI to assure fans this was real.
Fans Cannot Believe Their Eyes Seeing Football Rivals Together
Seeing Messi and Ronaldo in the same advertisement is rare. These two have dominated football for nearly two decades and usually represent competing brands. The last time they appeared together in a major campaign was for luxury brand Louis Vuitton in 2022, which used an edited image of them playing chess. This time, they are actually together, building with plastic bricks.
One fan wrote on Instagram, “The world wasn’t ready to see so much talent together.” Another commented, “I first thought it was AI. But on closer inspection I realized that it was just the greatest AD of all time.”
The video collected 2.6 million likes within days. Popular football page 433 wrote, “Take my money, I’m weak @lego.”
New Lego Sets Let Fans Build Their Favorite Football Stars
The advertisement is part of a bigger product release. Lego is selling seven new sets tied to the four players. Each set includes a minifigure of the player dressed in their national team kit, standing on a brick base shaped like the first letter of their name.
The Messi set features a sky blue and white “M” base with his number 10. The Ronaldo set comes with a “CR7” base. Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. have their own letter-shaped designs as well. These smaller sets cost $29 each.
Messi and Ronaldo also received special “Football Legend” sets. These larger models have over 850 pieces and let fans build the players in different goal celebration poses. Ronaldo can be shown doing his famous “Siuuu” jump or a bicycle kick. Messi can be displayed pointing to the sky or dribbling. These sets cost $79.
Messi also has a premium wall art set made of 1,427 pieces that costs $179. It shows his signature victory pose with his number 10 jersey and includes hidden details from his career.
Players Share Excitement About Becoming Lego Figures
The footballers themselves talked about working with Lego. Ronaldo said, “It’s not every day you get to be transformed into a Lego set! I’m incredibly honored to be part of this new lineup.”
“Football has taught me to dream big and to constantly push my limits. This Lego set tells part of my story, but above all, it captures the energy and creativity that make this sport so special.” – Kylian Mbappe
Messi compared football to playing with bricks. “Similar to football, Lego Play is all about building and rebuilding, trying new things, learning from mistakes and celebrating successes,” he said.
Vinicius Jr. spoke about his childhood. “I didn’t have much growing up, but I used to play with LEGO at school. Like a lot of kids, I loved building things, creating my own world,” he shared.

Why This Campaign Matters Before the 2026 World Cup
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, 2026. It is the first World Cup with 48 teams instead of 32. This tournament may also be the last World Cup for Messi (38 years old) and Ronaldo (41 years old), making their presence in this campaign even more special for fans.
Lego is betting big on football. The company already found success with Formula One racing products. Last year, its designers built 10 working F1 cars for the Miami Grand Prix. Julia Goldin, Lego’s Chief Marketing Officer, confirmed there will be more football experiences, including fan zones during the World Cup.
The new Lego football collection is available for pre-order now on the official Lego website. The products will start shipping on May 1, 2026.
