Machine Gun Kelly, also known as Colson Baker, recently showed off a dramatic new tattoo on Instagram – a complete blackout covering a large portion of his body. While some fans were surprised by the bold look, his fiancee, Megan Fox, is a big fan. In fact, she thinks it’s incredibly stylish!
On a recent episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Fox opened up about MGK’s new ink. She explained that the tattoos he previously had held negative memories for him, and he wanted a fresh start. “He has a special story behind it,” Fox said, “but it’s something for him to tell.”
Fox went on to shower praise on the new tattoo, calling it “really elegant” and even predicting it would be a major trend in the future. “It’s like an elevated version of all those tattoos that were pieced together,” she said. “I think in 10 years it’ll be a trend.”
One surprising detail Fox revealed is that MGK didn’t use any anesthesia during the tattoo process, which can take hours to complete and can be very painful. “It’s like a spiritual initiation,” Fox said, adding that she couldn’t imagine how he “endured that level of pain.”
For those unfamiliar with anesthesia tattoos, the process involves putting a client to sleep while multiple tattoo artists work simultaneously. This allows for large areas of skin to be tattooed quickly, but it comes at a cost – anesthesia is expensive and requires specialized medical staff. Celebrity tattoo artist Jose Contreras explained the procedure to People magazine in 2022. “Imagine five tattoo artists working at the same time on your full back piece, so in seven hours you can get your full back piece with no pain. You just go under, you wake up, and your full back is done.”
While this might sound appealing to some, it’s important to remember that anesthesia carries risks, just like any surgery. So, for most people, the traditional approach of multiple tattoo sessions with breaks is the safer and more affordable option.
Whether you love it or hate it, Machine Gun Kelly’s tattoo is certainly a conversation starter. And with Megan Fox’s enthusiastic approval, who knows, maybe blackout tattoos will be the next big thing.
