A new trailer for the Disney+ series “Made in Korea“ shows actors Hyun Bin and Jung Woo-sung headed for a dramatic confrontation. The series, set in the turbulent 1970s, features Hyun Bin as Baek Ki Tae, a man consumed by ambition, and Jung Woo-sung as Jang Geon Young, a prosecutor determined to stop him. The newly released preview sets the stage for a complex battle where both men claim to be patriots, but for entirely different reasons.
The Core Conflict
The plot of “Made in Korea” revolves around two powerful men on a collision course. Hyun Bin’s character, Baek Ki Tae, is a department head at the Korean Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA). He is a man driven by a deep desire for wealth and power, who treats the nation as his personal business model. Despite his high position, his actions raise suspicions about his true motives.
Standing in his way is Jung Woo-sung’s character, Jang Geon Young, a prosecutor described as having animalistic instincts and terrifying tenacity. He is investigating a shadowy criminal organization and becomes fixated on catching Baek Ki Tae, even if it means defying orders from his own superiors.
Decoding the Trailer
The teaser begins with a solemn shot of Baek Ki Tae saluting the national flag, immediately establishing a tense atmosphere. When Jang Geon Young asks him why he joined the KCIA, Baek Ki Tae firmly states, “I joined to serve my country.”
However, his subsequent actions seem to contradict his words. His declaration that “This too is national duty, this too is patriotism” blurs the line between genuine loyalty and personal ambition. This leaves viewers to question his true intentions.
On the other side, Jang Geon Young is shown as a man of unwavering resolve. He pushes forward with his investigation despite warnings, vowing, “Baek Ki TaeโI’ll catch him no matter what.” His warning to his rival, “If you want to go up against me, be prepared,” signals his total commitment to the pursuit.
The tension culminates in a key exchange. Baek Ki Tae pointedly asks Jang Geon Young, “What game are you playing?” The prosecutor’s simple, one-word answerโ“Patriotism”โpowerfully foreshadows the central theme. The two men are set for a fateful clash, both using the same word to justify their actions but with entirely different meanings.

“Made in Korea” is directed by Woo Min-ho, known for films like “The Man Standing Next.” This series marks his first venture into television direction. The production is a significant undertaking, with a reported budget of around 70 billion Korean won.
The cast includes several other notable actors. Woo Do-hwan plays Baek Ki Hyeon, the elite military academy graduate who is Baek Ki Tae’s younger brother. Won Ji-an and Seo Eun-soo also star in key roles, with Seo Eun-soo playing a detective who works as the prosecutor’s secretary. The supporting cast includes Jung Sung-il, Roh Jae-won, and Park Yong-woo, who appear to be involved in hidden alliances with Hyun Bin’s character.
At a recent press event in Hong Kong, the main cast and director discussed the project. Jung Woo-sung shared that he initially had doubts about the role.
“When the director first approached me, I thought the character didn’t suit me,” Jung Woo-sung said. “I wondered if someone more daring should take it, but as I read the script, I felt there were parts I could fill, so I took the scriptโI took courage.”
Hyun Bin explained the power of the story, noting, “The power of the script. It mixes the real 1970s setting with fiction to build a solid story.” He expressed hope that viewers would enjoy the emotions and conflicts that arise from the characters’ desires.
Director Woo Min-ho highlighted his strong working relationship with Hyun Bin, having previously collaborated on the film “Harbin.” Hyun Bin added that working on a series together, rather than a movie, was a good experience.
Release Schedule
“Made in Korea” is scheduled to premiere on December 24, 2025, on Disney+ and Hulu. The first two episodes will be released on the premiere date. Two more episodes will follow on December 31, 2025, with the remaining episodes of the season released sequentially after that. Even before its debut, a second season has been confirmed and is expected to be released in the second half of 2026.
