Nearly two decades after the chaotic family sitcom left screens, the Wilkersons are officially coming back for more. Hulu has released the first-look teaser for Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, a limited four-episode revival that brings the original cast back together. The series will premiere in 2026 and is already sparking excitement with a perfectly recreated moment from the classic pilot episode.

The new teaser wastes no time diving into nostalgia. It features a direct callback to the original show’s pilot, with Jane Kaczmarek as Lois shaving the back of her husband Hal, played once again by Bryan Cranston. Set about twenty years after the events of the original series, the revival follows a grown-up Malcolm, who has tried to build a quieter life. That plan falls apart when his parents, Hal and Lois, demand that he and his daughter come home to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.

The Original Cast Returns for Four New Episodes

The core cast of the beloved early-2000s sitcom is reassembling for this new chapter. Frankie Muniz is returning to play the lead role of the now-adult Malcolm. He is joined by his on-screen parents, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, who are reprising their iconic roles as Hal and Lois.

Malcolm’s older brothers are also back in the fold. Christopher Masterson will return as the rebellious Francis, and Justin Berfield is back as the trouble-prone but good-hearted Reese. Emy Coligado is also set to return as Francis’s wife, Piama. Notably, one major recast is happening for the revival. The role of the musical genius Dewey, originally played by Erik Per Sullivan, will now be portrayed by actor Caleb Ellsworth-Clark. Sullivan has largely stayed out of acting since the series ended in 2006, making him absent from recent reunions.

The series will also introduce several new characters to the Wilkerson family dynamic. These include Malcolm’s daughter, Leah, played by Keeley Karsten, and his girlfriend, Tristan, played by Kiana Madeira. Also joining is Vaughan Murrae as Kelly, the youngest Wilkerson sibling, whose birth was hinted at in the original series finale when Lois discovered she was pregnant again.

The Long Road Back to a Dysfunctional Family

Talk of a Malcolm in the Middle reunion has been circulating for almost a decade. As far back as 2016, Bryan Cranston publicly expressed interest in getting the cast back together. In 2021, Frankie Muniz revealed on a podcast that Cranston was actively writing a script for a potential movie, and that most of the cast was eager to return, with the exception of one key person.

The project was officially confirmed in December 2024, originally pitched as a two-hour movie before being shaped into a four-episode limited series. Original series creator Linwood Boomer is back as the writer and an executive producer for the revival. Principal photography for the series took place in April and May of 2025 at the Vancouver Film Studios.

How and When to Watch the New Episodes

Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair will be a Hulu Original in the United States. For subscribers to the Disney Bundle, it will be available through the Hulu hub on the Disney+ platform. Viewers outside the United States will be able to stream the new episodes directly on Disney+.
